INTRODUCTION  
In today’s busy world too many people are saying they don’t have time to read the Bible, or they don’t understand it or claim that it is no longer relevant. What greater misunderstanding is there than to miss the peace and joy of Scripture, not to mention finding truth in the Bible, accepting the belief in Jesus Christ and the opportunity for forgiveness of sin and life everlasting with God.
In reading the Bible, it is helpful to realize that Almighty God, the Creator of the universe and all life on earth chose to be born as the man Jesus to teach his love, mercy and grace to the humans he created. The Jews had become so involved in the laws of “religion” they no longer knew God. So Jesus came as the Messiah, he humbled himself to meet the people at their level. He used stories about things they understood to show them how to live and to renew their faith in God. They were shepherds, homemakers, farmers and weavers. He met them at their level. He understands that we are human and we make mistakes and sometimes use poor judgement.
The same applies in our lives today. God will meet us at our level. We don’t teach how the engine of a car works, we just show how to turn on the power to make it run. We don’t need to know all the intricacies of how a computer works, we only need to know how to tap into the advantages it offers. The new cell phones are offering more and more opportunities after we learn how to use them. The same principles apply to becoming a Christian. We don’t need to understand all the mysteries of God, we need only to learn to believe in the Lord Jesus who is the key that opens the door to more understanding of who he is and what he has to offer to those who believe in him.
There are many devotionals on the market with quick, daily scripture lessons directly from the Bible, but some of these passages may be superficial, and disconnected from one another. What people need is a “summary” of the important Scriptures that give knowledge of the New Testament in short, concise, readable passages. The pages in this book that you are holding give accurate scripture readings from one chapter to the next and give to the reader an overview of the entire New Testament.
This book is is not meant to replace reading whole chapters of the Bible, but that you will be encouraged to read more, to learn more and to understand more.
There are certain numbers in the Bible that seem to have special significance. Some of the numbers repeat themselves and seem to have an even a greater importance. For example the numbers 3, 7, 66, 40 just to mention a few. The number three is significant: Three days Jonah was in the whale, three days Jesus was in the tomb after his resurection, the three gifts of God: Faith, Hope and Love, the three-fold nature of the believer, Body, Soul and Spirit. The number three is used 467 times in the Bible, but perhaps the most significant use of the number three is the Trinity: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Scattered among many of the books of the New Testament are Chapters threes with verse 16 that give us guideposts along the road from the first appearance of Jesus’s ministry, to the appointment of his apostles, baptism, affirmation of the deity of Jesus and the power of his name to heal. The 3:16’s teach us what sin is and why we try to avoid sinning. They tell us of the promises of the new covenant, the power of intercessory prayer, rules for Christian living, assurance that God loves us, the command that God gives us to love others and spread the Gospel. In the last book, the Book of Revelation, John is given visions by God showing him what will happen in the future and we are warned to stay true to our faith and to stay passionate for our love of God to be prepared for that future.
This book may be read one chapter at a time or as many in succession as time permits.
HISTORY OF THE BIBLE  
When the King James translation of the Bible was published in 1611, it marked the first time a standardized version was used in church services and that was also available to everyone. Up until this time various translations were used in the churches and only the churches had access to the Scriptures.
What is amazing about the Bible is that this book is a unified volume of 66 chapters with a beginning, a climatic ending and a story that comes full circle. It is an unfolding drama based around a central character and with a meaningful message.
