Two major anniversaries will soon be drawing visitors from both home and abroad to Leipzig 2013: the birth of Richard Wagner 200 years ago (on 22 May 1813 ), and the Battle of the Nations between Emperor Napoleon's troops and the coalition armies in October of the same year.

The double anniversary of theBattleof the Nations and the Monument to theBattleof the Nations provides an occasion for historical re-enactments, exhibitions and get-togethers.
