Believe it or not, this applies to everyone, that is not dramatic in nature whatsoever. If you want to excel, you can't do the same workouts day in and day out. You have to add variety, and mix it up, you truly want to avoid getting burned out while you exercise. That's why you need to expand your knowledge of fitness as much as possible.  Entering into competitions for your sport is something you should do if you are serious about your fitness goals. Competing at levels like this will force you to truly go the distance, altering your frame of mind for the better. When you were in front of that audience, can feel intimidated by their sheer presence. But so what, the important thing with this is to derive persona benefits and gains. Preparing for the competition will be quite simple once you are committed to a particular date. That act alone will raise your game and inject a little fire in your stomach. Although this can be a bad idea if you push yourself too hard, you can definitely improve your health because of this competition. This should be a positive experience that makes you healthy, so keep it all in perspective as you train.  Staying with a new fitness program and not quitting it, is normally one of people's biggest problems. Accountability is something you need to have, but figuring it out isn't always easy. If this is a challenge to you, then you shouldn't start anything new, without trying your best to fix it before you begin. There must be something you can do when you slack off that would keep you from doing it.  Joining a fitness club and having to pay dues every month is one solution. It is a real waste of money to pay for a health club and seldom use it. You can also become accountable with a group of people who are friendly to work out with.  
If you are not making progress, you will need to make changes to your program. You want to know when your current efforts have reached a plateau. The envelope will need to be pushed, so you can leave your comfort zone, any time that happens. When you are passionate about working out, you will never have a problem doing this.  
For others, you have to discipline yourself and be willing to accept the physical discomfort. Not only will your body be getting the benefit of this, but so will your mind. So add more only when you know and feel it's safe to do and you'll continue making strong gains. You'll become more creative and smarter when you add to what you know about fitness. If you really want to learn fast, learning from people that have experience in this area, is the best way to go. Just find people that have an understanding of physical fitness. They don't have to be experts at all. This is not to say that finding someone with years of experience is not going to be beneficial in your quest for knowledge.
