What to Expect in Opiate Treatment
Opiate Treatment Centers
Opiate treatment is similar to many other forms of addiction treatment and typically includes opiate detox, counseling, therapy and aftercare. From one-on-one counseling sessions to group therapy and family counseling, the recovering addict is taught new ways of coping with stress and other potential triggers that may cause them to abuse opiates, they learn how to rebuild functional and healthy relationships with friends and family members and they learn how to live drug free. Counseling and therapy truly make up the foundation of an opiate treatment program by providing the patient with the tools, education and support necessary to successfully recover from opiate addiction.
Of course, before any counseling or therapy is provided to the patient, the individual must first safely and effectively make it through opiate detox. Ridding the body of the harmful toxins that opiates such as heroin, OxyContin or Morphine have left behind and overcoming the physical dependence that that individual has on the drug is a vital first step to opiate addiction treatment. During opiate detox, the patient will face many challenges including the burning temptation to use more opiates just to “feel” better. Because of such temptation, it is always advisable that anyone addicted to opiates seek help in a facility that provides opiate detox support.
Following a successful detox and weeks or even months of counseling and therapy, the patient will be discharged from the opiate treatment program ready to take on the new challenges of living outside of treatment while maintaining sobriety. Fortunately, most opiate addiction treatment programs include aftercare services which may consist of job placement, housing or sober living assistance, additional counseling and support as well as other helpful services to assist the patient in maintaining sobriety and moving forward in life.
Why Opiate Treatment is So Important
Opiate addiction is a serious condition that carries dire consequences when left untreated. Opiate addiction treatment provides a safe place for the addict to get the help and support they need to successfully eliminate opiates from their life and rebuild from the ground, up. Opiate treatment changes the behaviors that an individual is accustomed to through counseling and therapy. By changing the negative behaviors into positive ones the addict has a better chance of actually staying sober, making the right choices in life and enjoying lasting recovery from opiate addiction.
Treatment for opiate addiction can literally be a lifesaving decision for an individual who regularly abuses opiates. Through rehabilitation which includes counseling and therapy as well as educational support, opiate treatment can help a recovering addict to gain the skills necessary to live a drug-free life. So when the question comes up, “Why is opiate treatment so important?” The answer is simple, “Opiate treatment is important because opiate treatment saves lives!”
