critical parenting abilities you need  Lots of parents believe that all of the things there are to know about raising kids is pretty self evident but sometimes there are new skills that need to be picked up. This is because not one person is absolutely perfect; every person has areas of improvement or weaknesses that they need to improve upon. The world changes at a really rapid pace; for example, a lot of parents today did not grow up using the internet but they have to carefully watch their kids' activity on it to
make sure their kids aren't adversely affected by the online world. Let's take a look at some of the important parenting skills that every parent should have.  Consistency is a requirement when it comes to disciplining your kids. This is not an easy quality for many parents to display, but if you lack it you can be sure your children will not take your directives very seriously. You need to think long and hard about the rules and consequences you set up: do not make threats or promises that you do not intend to keep. If you've taken your child's television privileges away for the week, you have to stick to this. If you don't you'll send the message that you don't stick to your guns and it is okay to ignore you. Children will, of course, test your resolve, so you have to be firm.  It is very important that parents learn how to become interested in the same things their kids find interesting.  This can only go so far, of course, but your child will appreciate any effort you make at becoming part of his or her world. A typical example of this is finding time to attend an event your child is participating in, whether it's a sporting event, musical performance or play. Even when the activity isn't something you particularly like, learn what you can about it so that you can bond over it with your kids.  Kids these days are prone to spending any spare time they have in front of a computer, on the phone or in front of the television. For this reason alone, one of the skills you need to have as a parent is to teach your kids how to play freely. Aside from any organized activities you've signed them up for, don't forget the value of old fashioned parks and playgrounds, or arranging play dates with other kids. Research shows that kids who don't play enough are prone to social problems like aggression, ADD and depression. A good way to encourage this is to have family day trips on weekends that include activities like hiking, walking in the woods, swimming and other outdoor activities.
The parenting skills outlined in this article are just some things that every parent should be aware of. Parenting skills can involve many things, from listening to your child to knowing when discipline is needed. To be a good parent you need to understand where the line is between being involved and helping them grow up to be self sufficient.
