Vingtième Siècle. Revue d'histoire - Année 1986 - Volume 11 - Numéro 1 - Pages 41-54Was Vichy fascist ?, Alain-Gérard Slama. In order to understand the Vichy regime, one must focus on what differentiates it from all the other authoritarian experiments and makes it an element of the political originating in the Revolution and the Empire. This makes it possible to determine to what extent the components of the Petain myth are elements traditional in French culture : the soldier, the peasant and the school teacher. And how the weight of cultural references favored the pluralism of political debate within the regime and led its political discourse toward continuity. Culture more than conjuncture thus probably saved Petain's France from the fascist epidemic. 14 pages Source : Persée ; Ministère de la jeunesse, de l’éducation nationale et de la recherche, Direction de l’enseignement supérieur, Sous-direction des bibliothèques et de la documentation.
