TheactiveglassesX101workinautomaticmode–thereisnopowerswitchtoturntheglasses"ON"or"OFF".Uponreceivingtheglasses,theyareintheoff‐mode,meaningthattheglassesperiodicallycheckforthevalidIRsignal.Intheoff‐modethelensesappeargreen.UponreceivingtheIRsignal,theglassesstartawarm‐upsequence.

Warm‐upsequence‐Duringthewarm‐upperiodthelensesremainopaquefortheentirewarm‐upperiodwhichlastsfortwoseconds.Attheendofawarm‐upperiodtheglassesgointonormalrun‐ mode.Inthismode,thelensesopenandcloseinsyncwiththeprojectortodeliverthe3Dexperiencetotheviewer.

Clearmode‐Wheninrun‐mode,aftertheglasseslooseavalidsynchronizationsignal,theygotoaclearmode(bothlensesclear).Intheclearmode,bothlensesremainopen,sothattheviewercanseenormallythroughtheglasses.Thelensesremainopenuntiltheglassesareabletoreceiveasyncsignal.Iftheydon'treceivethesignalinfiveminutestheygotoanoff‐mode.

Batterylife‐Theglassescheckforalowbatteryconditionjustbeforegoingtothe"off‐mode".Ifthebatterylifeisinsufficientthelenseswillbeginblinkingslowly(thelensesareclosedandbrieflyflashopensimultaneouslyonceeverytwoseconds)toindicatealowbatteryconditionandpreventtheglassesfromgoingtorun‐mode.Thecontrolcircuitisdesignedsothatalowbatteryconditiondoesnotappearduringtherun‐modewhenwatchingamovie.

Replacingthebattery‐Accesstothebatteryisprovidedthroughanopeningontheinteriorsideoftheframethatissealedoffbyacover.Inthecaseofdeadbattery,thesealisopenedusingakey,
