What is Burnout?

In a 2012 study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, findings indicate Burnout among physicians has risen to an alarming level. The Mayo Clinic identifies͞lack ofcontrol͟as a leading cause of professional Burnout and this concern has been echoed by physicians who say they feel increasingly like a cog in a wheel, working longer hours, having less time for patients, spending more time on the increasing administrative demands of a managed healthcare system and, ultimately, having less direct control over patient care, itself.
How to Identify and Treat ͞Burn Out͟ in Healthcare Professionals What appears to be brewing is a recipe for disaster. Consider that physicians suffering from high job stress and symptoms of Burnout can be reluctant to seek help for fear of losing their medical licenses if they report mental stress. As a result, many attempt to cope on their own, turning to increased self-medication, alcoholism and other behaviors that do not support their improved mental, physical, or spiritual well-being. Sadly, these factors combined with inadequate treatment for mental illness may account for the higher-than-average rate of suicide among physicians.
How to Identify and Treat ͞Burn Out͟ in Healthcare Professionals Learn about the warning signs and symptoms of Burnout and some of the most effective preventative measures you can take to improve your quality of life, as well as patient care. Among other things, practitioners will learn how to better protect themselves, their patients, family members and fellow healthcare workers against the deteriorating mental, physical, and spiritual effects caused by healthcare industry Burnout.
