Description

Mr Martin Schulz Mr Donald Tusk Mr Jean-Claude Juncker President President President European Parliament European Council European Commission Brussels, 5 March 2015 Dear President Schulz, Dear President Tusk, Dear President Juncker, Today's judgment by the CJEU against France and Luxembourg would have been avoided were a discriminatory regime not in place which requires Member States to apply much higher VAT rates to digital publications than print. We, the representatives of the book value chain, strongly believe that the value of a book does not depend on its format or the way it is accessed by readers. Therefore, we urge the Commission to take swift action to amend the relevant legislation to ensure it reflects technological progress and remove a serious hindrance to the development of the e-book market. This will fit neatly into its Work Programme, which states that "Barriers to digital are barriers to jobs, prosperity and progress". Yours sincerely, Pirjo Hiidenmaa EWC President Kyra Dreher EIBF Co-President Pierre Dutilleul FEP President Fabian Paagman EIBF Co-President Henrique Mota FEP Vice-President Jean-Luc Treutenaere EIBF Co-President Federation of European Publishers – Fédération des Editeurs européens 31, Rue Montoyer – 1000 Brussels Tel 32-2-770-11-10 – Fax 32-2-771-20-71 Emailinfo@fep-fee.eu– Websitewww.fep-fee.
