Bobble Edge Jacket

Simple stitches and an easy bobble detail on the edges give this jacket great style.

Materials:

8 (9, 10) skeins of Eco Super Alpaca

or

5 (6, 7) skeins of Cascade Softspun

or

6 (7, 8) skeins of Cascade Greenland

Needles:

5mm (US 8) and 6mm (US 10) straight needles and 5mm (US 8) and 6mm (US 10)

80 (32”) cm circular needles, or needle size to give correct tension.

Tension:

16 sts = 4” on 6mm (US 10) needles.

Finished Measurements:

Width: 36” (41”, 46”)

Length: 23”, 25”, 27”

Sleeve: 17.5”

Body:

With 6mm (US 10) circular needle, cast on 121 (141, 161) sts. Work as follows:

Row 1: *K2, P2* repeat between *'s to last st, K1

Row 2: *P2, K2* repeat between *'s to last st, P1

Work these two rows for pattern until piece measures 12” (13”, 14”), ending on a wrong side

row. Change to 5mm (US 8) circular needle. Next row: Purl. Next row: Knit. Repeat these two

rows once more. Change to 6mm (US 10) circular needle and work 8 (12, 16) rows in

stocking stitch.

Next row: K1, SSK, K21 (26, 31) cast off 6, K61 (71, 81) cast off 6, K21 (26, 31) K2tog, K1

Next row: Purl only the first 23 (28, 33) sts for the left front, leaving the remaining sts on a

holder.

Shape neck and armhole edges:

Row 1: K1, SSK, K20 (25, 30)

Row 2: Purl

Row 3: K1, SSK, K19 (24, 29)

Row 4: Purl

Row 5: K21 (26, 31)

Row 6: Purl

Continue as follows: *Next right side row: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1

Work 7 rows in stocking stitch.* Repeat between *'s until 16 (20, 24) sts remain. Work 3

more rows, ending on a wrong side row. Next row: Cast off 8 (10, 12) sts, knit to end. Next

row: Purl. Cast off remaining 8 (10, 12) sts.

Now work the 23 (28, 33) sts of the right front, leaving the remaining sts on a holder for the

back.

Shape neck and armhole edges:

Row 1: K20 (25, 30) sts, K2tog, K1

Row 2: Purl

Row 3: K19 (24, 29) sts, K2tog, K1

Row 4: Purl

Row 5: K21 (26, 31)

Row 6: Purl

Continue as follows: *Next right side row: K1, SSK, knit to end. Work 7 rows in stocking

stitch.* Repeat between *'s until 16 (20, 24) sts remain. Work 2 more rows, ending on a right

side row. Next row: Cast off 8 (10, 12) sts, knit to end. Next row: Knit. Cast off remaining 8

(10, 12) sts.

Work the 61 (71, 81) sts of the back as follows:

Row 1 (right side): K1, SSK, K55 (65, 75) K2tog, K1

Row 2 (wrong side): Purl.

Row 3: K1, SSK, K53, (63, 73) K2tog, K1.

Row 4: Purl

Continue in stocking stitch without further shaping until the back measures the same as

fronts before cast off, ending on a wrong side row. Cast off 8 (10, 12) sts from the beginning

of the next 4 rows. Cast off 9 (12, 14) sts of the next 2 rows, leaving the remaining 27 (29,

31) sts on a holder.

Sleeves:

With 6mm (US 10) needles, cast on 53 (57, 61) sts.

Bobble row: K2, Make bobble as follows: K into the front, then the back of the next st, twice,

then knit into the front of the st once more, forming 5 new sts. Turn. K5, Turn, K5. Pass the

st on the right hand needle. *K3. Make bobble as given*.

Repeat between *'s until the last 2 sts. K2. Continue in pattern stitch as follows

Row 1: *K2, P2* repeat between *'s to last st, K1

Repeat these two rows until sleeve measures 4” from bobble row, ending on a wrong side

row. Change to 5mm (US 8) needles. Purl one row, Knit one row. Repeat the last two rows

once more. Change to 6mm (US 10) needles and work in stocking stitch until piece measures

17.5”, ending on a wrong side row.

Shape top of sleeve. Cast off 4 sts from the beginning of the next 2 rows.

Row 1: K1, SSK, K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. 45 (49, 53) sts

Row 2 and all wrong side rows: Purl

Row 3: as Row 1. (43, 47, 51) sts

*Work 3 rows in stocking stitch. Decrease as given for Row 1.* Repeat between *'s until 33

(35, 39) sts.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until 23 sts.

Row 1: K1, SSK, K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. 21 sts

Row 2: P1, P2tog, P to last 3 sts, P2tog-tbl, P1. 19 sts

Repeat these two rows until 11 sts remain. Cast off.

Opening Edge Band: Sew shoulders together. With 6mm (US 10) circular needle, beginning

at the bottom of right front, pick up and K 1 st for every second row of knitting along the

right front opening edge, K the sts from the back neck edge holder, and 1 st for every second

row of knitting down the left front opening edge. Work in garter stitch for 18 (20, 22) rows.

Bobble cast off: Cast off 1 st, *make bobble, cast off 3, including bobble st.*.

Finishing:

Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves into armholes. Darn in ends.
