The change of regime in Hungary meant a comprehensive and consistant negation of the previous situation. The new directions in the foreign policy are : the reintegration to the world, first of all, to Western Europe ; the deorientation from the Soviet line ; the assertion of the national interest. This policy includes two main trends : Europeanization ― which aims at the political and economic integration to Europe ― and renationalization ― which considers national sovereignty as priority n° 1. The main guideline for Hungary's foreign policy during the Yougoslav crisis has been its strop Europeanization inner current. The well-balanced policy of being Europe-conform and asserting the national interest has passed one of its hardest examination.
Le changement de régime en Hongrie impliqua un refus global et systématique de la situation antérieure. La nouvelle orientation de la politique extérieure vise à : réintégrer le monde et, en tout premier lieu, l'Europe de l'Ouest ; s'écarter de la ligne de conduite définie par l'ex-Union soviétique ; affirmer l'importance de l'intérêt national. Elle comporte deux tendances principales : l'« européanisation » — qui a pour but l'intégration politique et économique dans l'Europe — et la « renationalisation » — qui a pour priorité la souveraineté nationale. Au cours de la crise yougoslave, la politique extérieure hongroise s'est appuyée principalement sur le courant interne pro-européen ; elle a su concilier l'affirmation de ses intérêts nationaux et son alignement sur l'Europe.
