What To Do To Have The Greenest Home Possible These days, more and more people seek to be environmentally conscious, and that's a very good thing. It's important to use energy wisely and use renewable energy. The great side effect of doing this is that you will end up with more money in your pocket. Here are some handy practical tips to help you go as green as you can. Insulate your home. If there are gaps in door panels, loose window panes and so on, fix them! Check to see if you need insulation in your attic. Your power company may actually do this installation for you free! You will be amazed at the comfort of your home and your pocketbook when you take the time to insulate your home well. In addition to insulating your attic, be sure that it is well ventilated. You will want to be able to blow hot air out of it to the outside in summer and to the inside in winter. Likewise, you can set up vent fans that take the hot air out of your house and into the attic during the summertime, thus reducing your cooling expenses. Look into using solar panels. In sunny areas, you can make very good use of the free energy provided by the sun. It is already shining on your roof, anyway! Why not put it to work? While going solar throughout the house may be too ambitious a project to tackle all at once, you can go solar one panel at a time and one type of energy use at a time until you have your whole home powered by the sun. At this point, you may even be able to sell power back to the power company instead of paying a bill! Monitor your use of air conditioners during the warm time of year. Keeping your rooms just a degree or two warmer than most people are used to (try 75 degrees Fahrenheit) will save you a lot of energy and money. If you use window units, stagger them throughout the day and night to cool only the rooms you are using at the moment. When you are away turn off your air conditioners or just leave one on low to keep the house cool enough for plants and pets (and to prevent walking into a blast furnace when you arrive home). In the winter time, keep your home a bit cooler than most people are used to (try 65 degrees Fahrenheit). After all, you can always put on a sweater, pull an afghan over your legs and or snuggle
with your favorite pet or pal for a little extra warmth! When you replace an old appliance, be sure to look for the Energy Star on its replacement. Energy efficient appliances will save you a surprising amount of energy and money. When you purchase light bulbs, spring for the more expensive, energy saving kind. Even though these cost more at the outset, they last longer and use less energy, so they save you money in the long run. Click Here For More Information
