Present Dr T C Harry, Dr Susie Forster, Dr Chris Carne, Dr Chris Sonnex, Dr T Balanchandran, Dr H Wankowska, Dr Mohanarathi Kawsar, Dr Meena Gupta, Dr Sam Jebakumar, Dr Sarah Edwards, Dr Lynsey Emmett 2. Apologies for Absence Dr K Shanmugaratnam, Dr Veeravahu, Dr Arayanayagam 3. Minutes of the last meeting The group agreed that the minutes reflect an accurate record of the last meeting. 4. Recommendations raised by the group on the schedule of the cervical cytology audit result and the NHSCSP guidelines. All women newly diagnosed with HIV should have a baseline cervical cytology. To offer initial colposcopy for all new patients especially patients with low CD4 count. Annual cytology should be performed on all patients with HIV diagnosis. The result of each smear should be documented in the HIV case notes regardless of where the test is carried out. Patients who have their cervical smear done at their GP surgery their GP needs to be aware of their HIV status to do an annual smear. Annual cervical smear carried out at GUM clinics needs to be supported by a recall system. The NHS cervical screening programme recommended starting cervical smears at the age of 25. Subsequent colposcopy for cytological abnormalities should follow national guidelines.Cytology for annual screening needs to carry the patients name as well as an indication that the patient is immuno compromised. It is an opportunity to offer an annual STI screen test at the time of cervical cytology. In house audit to monitor the integrity of the pathway.

5.Feedback on National Audit Meeting Chris Carne pointed out that the National Audit Group is currently looking to audit against the BASHH standard for STI management. Clinics which support level 2 service need to be included in this audit process. A copy of the Draft KPI questions 02 May 2010 on BASHH STI Management Standards and BASHH Regional Audit Chairs roles doc were circulated to the entire group. Items circulated from NAG to the original audit share for distribution will be downloaded to the NAG website. NAG reviewed all the audit proforma published in the website and five essential questions where identified in each topic for future short audit. 6.Feedback on East Anglia Branch BASHHBranch Chair  Dr Susie Forster mentioned that her elected period will come to an end by September 2010 and a nomination for new Branch Chair will be requested. Having a constitution for East Anglia Branch was discussed and the group agreed for Dr Sinna Jebakumar to be the treasurer for the East Anglia Branch. DrJebakumar will be happy to reimburse the expenses needed to provide the admin support for the East Anglia Branch.His secretary Miss Karina Hlinka accepted to take this role of providing admin support for the East Anglia Branch. The role of the regional audit chair will be for a period of 2 years which will come to an end by September 2011.The administration of the East Anglia Branch website can be passed to the secretary to download the regional audit minutes to the BASHH website. 7.Suggestion for next audit The group agreed to carry out 2 audits per year and the suggested 2 topics are Trichomonas Vaginalis and to reaudit sexual health care of people with HIV infection. The forms will be circulated with the minutes for discussion in the next audit meeting. 8.Audit Result of the Enhanced Syphilis Surveillance programme Lynsey Emmett gave a short presentation on the National Enhanced Syphilis Surveillance (NESS) programme run by the HPA.NESS collects information on primary, secondary and early latent syphilis cases (up to two years after infection).It was established to better characterize the geographic and demographic distribution of infection as well as monitoring infection trends amongst behavioural groups.NESS began in the East of England region in August 2007 and routine audits were started from April to June 2009 to check completeness of returns.

Since NESS began in the region 170 forms from 16 (out of the 22) GUM clinics have been received. LEpresented slides showing breakdown of returns by clinic and regional breakdown by characteristics.There was some discussion around the type of data and outputs from NESS that would be useful to the clinics.LE confirmed each clinic would receive a breakdown during July/August. A copy of Lynsey‘presentationwill be circulated on a separate email. 9.Presentation Dr Ed WilkinsConsultant and Clinical Director of Infectious Diseases at North Manchester General Hospital gave us a presentation on switching therapy.
