SANT CUGAT GE0THERMAL PROJECT ABSTRACT
ENHER is attempting to exploit the geothermal field in San Cugat del
Valles - Spain.
The project had the following objectives :
to demonstrate the possibility of exploiting the geothermal
granitic storage,
to demonstrate the techno-economic feasibility of heating
greenhouses in the area with geothermal energy,
to study the variations which occur in the storage under short
and long time test as well as the variations in temperature and
chemical composition,
to construct a preliminary model of the behaviour of the
reservoir.
The following work was carried out :
Hydrogeological surveys of the area, short time tests with various
flow-rates, long time tests, determinations of the bubble point
pressure, geochemical follow-up, interpretation and simulation by
adapting a model of a single vertical fracture and a specific model on
impermeable barriers and a market study.
The most important results are :
It was possible to get good calibrations on the two models tested,
then, a simulation test during a long period was carried out with
excellent results. Under the geochemical point of view, the composition
of the pumped water shows notable stability both in time and in
relation to the volume of extracted water. Tritium contents indicate
waters infiltrated before 1952. Ho sign of mixing with more recent
waters was detected.
The stability noted in all the geochemical isotopical data, allows to
conclude that the geothermal field of St. Cugat is a relative extensive
geothermal resource which could be exploited at least for medium
temperature utilisation with flow-rates more than 50 1/s without any
major problems.
A potential market for ornamental flowers was found in the sourrounding
area of the geothermal field St. Cugat. VII
