3) Karena begitu pentingnja sumber2 dalam bahasa Belanda dan Inggris, kita sering melupakan bahwa ada djuga tjatatan2 perdja- lanan, ditulis oleh pengelana Perantjis dan dapat dipergunakan oleh para achli sedjarah Nusantara. Denys Lombard mentjatat perdjalanan2 jang paling menarik dengan memberi referensi2 biblio- grapik; Lombard menghidupkan kembali tokoh2 pemuka, kakak beradik Parmentier, Sieur Vincent Leblanc (abad ke 16), kemudian ekspedisi2 jang dilakukan oleh Laksamana de Beaulieu, tjerita2 dari Ta vernier dan Gervaise (abad ke 17). Abad ke 18 melihat lewat- nja terutama Poivre, kemudian Sonnerat, serta terdjemahan bebe- rapa karja penting (Kehidupan para Gubernur Djenderal Hin- dia Timur oleh Dubois, Den Haag 1763). Pada awal abad ke 19 tidak dapat disangkal lagi ditandai oleh datangnja Daendels, tetapi djuga kedatangannja beberapa perwira Perantjis, setelah bebas tugas pada achir perang Napoleon dan ditarik kedalam tentara Hindia Belanda. Penjatuan Negeri Belanda dan Belgia (1815-1830) menjebabkan pula terbitnja koleksi dalam Bahasa Perantjis tentang Nusantara. Tjerita dari Comte de Beauvoir jang muda, jang datang dipulau Djawa pada tahun 1866, ditjetak ulang beberapa kali. Dengan dibukanja terusan Suez (1869) ,,mendjadi dekatlah ne- gara2 Hindia dan makin meningkatlah djumlah perdjalanan ke Timur (antara lain X. Brau de Saint-Pol Lias); pada tahun 1878, Pameran Internasional di Paris mempunjai satu bagian chusus tentang kepulauan Nusantara dan pada tahun berikutnja suatu kelompok kerdja ketjil jang terdiri dari achli2 negara Timur diba- wah pimpinan Cte Meyners d'Estrey menerbitkan Les Annales d'Extrême-Orient jang memberikan tempat jang besar bagi Monde Malais (dunia Melaju). Mendjelang achir abad ke 19, kita melihat adanja kemunduran dalam bidang pengetahuan ini: Les Annales terhenti setelah terbit selama delapan tahun, penje- lidikan ilmiah tentang ,,hukum (perbandingan sistim kolonial) dan eksotisme timbul dengan datangnja para wisatawan jang pertama.
3) The importance of sources in Dutch and English has often caused people to forget that there also exist important accounts written by French travellers, useful to the historians of the Archipelago. Denys Lombard here passes in review the most important of these Voyages, giving for each the bibliographical references. He evokes the figures of the great precursors, the brothers Parmentier, and Vincent Leblanc (XVIth century), then the expeditions of Admiral Beaulieu, the accounts of Tavernier and Gervaise (XVII th century). The XVIII th. century sees the passage notably of Poivre, then Sonnerat, as well as the translation of several important works (Vies des gouverneurs généraux des Indes orientales, by Dubois, La Haye, 1763). The beginning of the XIXth century is marked, of course, by the passage of Daendels, but also by the arrival of several French officers out of work following the end of the Napoleonic wars and later employed in the Army of the Indies. The uniting of the Netherlands to Belgium (1815-1830) also provoked a series of publications in French on the Archipelago. The account of the young Count of Beauvoir who passed through Java in 1866, know numerous re-editions, and marked a certain increased awareness of Indonesia in French consciousness. The opening of the Suez canal (1869) brought together the Indies and multiplied the voyages (X. Brau de Saint-Pol Lias). In 1878 the Universal Exposition in Paris contained a section on the Iles de la Sonde, and the following year a small team of orientalists lead by Count Meyners d'Estrey started the Annales d'Extrême-Orient which gave a considerable attention to the Malay world. Towards the end of the century, one witnesses a certain regression in knowledge : the Annales cease appearing after eight years, the juridical studies (comparison of colonial systems) appear and exoticism is awakened with the coming of the first tourists.
