 T20 MultiGray 3/15/00 1:11 PM Page 8IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSWhen using your telephone equipment, basic safetyprecautionsshould always be followed to reduce the riskof fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including thefollowing:1.Read and understand all instructions.2. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on theproduct. The symbol identifies and alerts the user to the presence of important operating and service instructions.3.Unplug this product from the wall outlet beforecleaning. Do notuse liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use adamp cloth for cleaning.4. Do not locate base unit near water,for example, near abathtub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub, in a wetbasement or near a swimming pool.5.Do not place this product on an unstable cart, standor table.The product may fall, causing serious damage to the product.6.Slots and openings in the base unit and the bottomor back are provided for ventilation,to protect it fromoverheating; these openings must not be blocked or covered. Theopenings should never be blocked by placing the product in thebed, sofa, rug or other similar surface. This product should neverbe placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This productshould not be placed in a built-in installation unless proper ventilation is provided.7.Do not allow anything to rest on the telephone con-nection cord.Do not locate this product where the cord will beabused by persons walking on it.8.Do not overload outlets and extension cords as thiscan result in the risk of fire or electric shock.2IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS9.Never push objects of any kind into this productthrough base unit slotsas they may touch dangerous voltagepoints or short out parts that could result in a risk of fire or electricshock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.10.To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemblethis product,but take it to qualified service personnel when ser-vice or repair work is required. Opening or removing covers mayexpose you to dangerous voltages or other risks. Incorrectreassembly can cause electric shock when the product issubsequently used.11.Avoid using a telephone equipment during anelectrical storm.There may be a remote risk of electric shockfrom lightning.12.Do not use the telephone equipment to report a gasleak in the vicinity of the leak.13.Unplug this product from the wall outlet and referservicing to qualified service personnel under thefollowing conditions:a)When the power supply cord or plug is damaged or frayed.b)If liquid has been spilled into the product.c)If the product has been exposed to rain or water.d)If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions because improper adjustments of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the product to normal operation.e)If the product has been dropped or the base unit has been damaged.f)If the product exhibits a distinct change in performance.3
 T20 MultiGray 3/15/00 1:11 PM Page 10IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS14.Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.15.Never install telephone jacks in wet locationsunless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations.16.Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminalsunless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.17.Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.18.Use only with Class 2 power source.Plantronics Part No. 45671-01, rated at an input voltage of 120VVAC, 60 Hz and an output voltage of 9 VDC, 300mA.Plantronics Part No. 45671-02, rated at an input voltage of 220V-240V VAC, 50 Hz and an output voltage of 9 VDC, 300mA.19.This product requires AC power in order to operate. In order to have phone service during a power outage, have another telephone available that is powered only the telephone line.20.Keep all product cords and cables away from operating machinery.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS4STEP 1PUTESThe T20 Headset Telephone may be connected to two separatetelephone lines.Turn the T20 base over and insert the Headset Holder1.Connect the AC Power Adapter21to the T20 AC PowerAdapter Jack24and a wall outlet.Connect the T20 to the telephone wall jack. If the jack is dual-line, connect the Dual Line Cord2Bwiththe white flagto the Telephone Line 1/2 Jack23.If each line is a separate jack, connect one of the WallCords2to the Dual-Line Jack22and the other to the Line 2Jack23.Set the Tone/Pulse Switch6to match your phone service(usually tone). If you are not sure, call your local telephoneprovider.Set the Ringer Volume Control7for incoming calls to yourpreferred level.Plug the Headset Cord25into the Headset Jack14.For most U.S. users, the Flash Timing Switch5should be setto “3”, however, trying other settings will not harm the T20 oryour phone line.5GF
 T20 MultiGray 3/15/00 1:11 PM Page 12STEP 2USING THE HEADSETBegin by connecting the Headset Cord25to the Headset Jack14.The Headset included with the T20 Headset Telephone can be used with the Adjustable Headband27or with one of theEar Hooks28.HEADBAND USESnap the Headband27into the back of the Headset Assembly29.Press the Ear Cushion Assembly32onto theHeadset Assembly29, aligning the notch in the ring with the Voice Boom30.Place the Headset on either ear and adjust the Headset to acomfortable position by moving the Adjustable Headband27.Position the Voice Boom30near the corner of your mouth.EAR HOOK USEPress the Pivot Ball Ring31onto the Headset Assembly.Insert one of the Ear Hooks28into the Pivot Ball. You mayneed to try each size to find the most comfortable fit. Slip thehook over your ear and position the Voice Boom30near thecorner of your mouth.CLOTHING CLIPThe Clothing Clip26keeps the Headset free from the weight ofthe cord. Attach the clip to your clothing at about chest level.Allow enough slack in the cord (approximately 6 inches) topermit your head to move without pulling on the Headset orthe Clothing Clip.You are now ready to make or receive calls.6ABCDSTEP 3PLACING A CALL With the Headset in position, place a call by pressing Line113or Line 2 1 5  for a dial tone. The On Line3and Line 112or Line 216Indicator Lights will go on.Dial the desired number using the Twelve Button Dial Pad4.When your party answers speak normally. If your partycannot hear you, see Troubleshooting(page 9).Adjust the Listen Volume Control18as needed to hear the other party.REDIAL FEATUREThe base unit will store the last number dialed. The lastnumber can be automatically redialed by pressing the RedialButton9.CONFERENCE CALLSThe T20 allows you to arrange conference calls betweenyourself and two other callers. Place caller one on hold bypressing the Hold Button8. Answer or originate a call on theother line. When the second caller answers, press theConference Button19.RECEIVING A CALL With the Headset in position, when the ringer notifies you ofan incoming call, press the appropriate line button (Line 113or Line 215) to answer the call.7EE
 T20 MultiGray 3/15/00 1:11 PM Page 14FEATURESHOLD BUTTONThe Hold Button8allows you to suspend an active telephonecall on Line 1to answer or originate a second call on Line 2or vice versa.FLASH FEATUREIf your telephone service includes call waiting, the FlashButton17allows you to toggle between two calls. When yourphone alerts you to a second call, press the Flash Button toplace the current call on hold and to immediately connect youto the second call. Press the Flash Button again to return to thefirst caller.This feature can also be used with most office telephonesystems to transfer a call to another extension. Press Flash to hear a dial tone, enter the extension number, after theextension rings, press Flash again or hang up to transfer the call.MUTE FEATUREWhen you activate the Mute Button11, the calling partycannot hear your voice but you will be able to hear the callingparty.TONE FEATUREThe tonal quality of the incoming call can be adjusted bymoving the Tone Control20.8TROUBLESHOOTINGI CANNOT HEAR A DIAL TONEMake sure all connections are correct and firmly in place.
