This novel paints a gruesome picture of a raging fire that consumes everything along its track and thus necessitates relocation of victims from the disaster-prone area to a more secured but uninhabited dry land, which itself needs preservation and conservation. It locates the plane where literature meets ecology and is an invitation to excavate environmental literature or mine sites of ecology fossilized in works of art. According to Dr. Nforbin, this book transcends the duality of art and life and is a response to today's global ecological crisis.

Right in the heart of the womb, poles are firmly planted to which hearts and hands of assumed malformations are tied. With the wind blowing indiscriminately across every roof top, the tether should cease to be the stage where dream is roped and caged while sleep is fed and salaried.
This novel is dedicated to Senator Eno Emma Lafon, for your love and relentless support; and for reinforcing the foundation on which the house is sustained. You provided the tools needed to sow what is being harvested today.
What else is left to be said when literary fuels and luminaries like Bernard Fonlon, Chinua Achebe, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, Bole Butake, Nol Alembong, John Nkemngong, Shadrach Ambanasom, Chimamanda Adichie, Kenjo Jumbam, Linus Asong, Bate Besong, Sankie Maimo, Francis Nyamnjoh, Mathew Takwi, Anne Tanyi Tang, Afuh Magaret, Tasi Ntang Lucas and a throng of other social commentators not mentioned here have roared like thunder in lines of print? This is the thought that immediately darted across my mind when I asked myself whatRustles on Naked Trees is about. My intention was to write literature that forages for textual manure in swollen winds, in gutters suffocating with waste, in the tiny summits of garbage lurking along the banks of silent rivers, in the wastebaskets, in the mountains,in the rustles of the passing breeze, in the laughing waters hurling like white sheets over rocks, in the raging winds and the garments of trees,in addition, in the and mind. Since I am not quite sure that this attempt at textualising environment and reality qualifies to write back to lovers of literary ecology, and since I am also aware that it is still a limping effort, I feel rather comfortable talking about what I wish I was able to do.
The destination is still the womb of darkness. I am just attempting to suggest narrativeoriented and ecocritical discursive highways to get to the point of arrival. One may as well ask if there are still unfamiliar ways of sowing the seeds of language that can write back to hearts that throb with the rhythm of laughing waters and the rustles of trees.
Another child is born into the academic (ecological) maternity, or parenthood, and needs parenting. I can’t tell whether the womb of my mind has given birth to a full bloom, or to a cripple. It must however be admitted that talking to ecologyminded Africans in pure and completely uncontaminated Western linguistics is one school from which I am unlikely to graduate. True enough, once we start talking about environment and culture in a foreign language, there will always be linguistic lacunae because foreign contexts do not have some of our practices. This is very true of a contextprone and an environmentfuelled novel likeRustles on Naked Treesfor the most part, is densely which, clad in garments of trees. In other words, environment comes from language and lives in the language it produces and transforms. In language, we see environment and in environment we see language.
