Delicious Mohair Lined Mittens

Materials: 100gChunky Yarn (16 st = 4") Needles: 4.5 (US 7) and 5mm (US 8) double point needles

With 4.5 mm (US 7) double point set, and chunky yarn, cast on 36 sts. Divide 12 sts onto three needles. Join into the round and work 20 rounds in K2, P2 rib, marking the first st of the final round of ribbing. Change to 5mm (US 8) needles and stocking stitch. Work 15 rounds. Mark placement of thumb stitches:Next round: K3, K6 with a scrap of waste yarn. Slip the 6 sts knit with waste yarn back to the left hand needle, then knit again with Chunky Yarn. Knit to the end of round. Work 24 more rounds in stocking stitch. Decrease for top of mitten: Rnd 1:*K2tog, K4* repeat to end of round. Rnd 2, 4, and 6: Knit Rnd 3: *K2tog, K3* repeat to end of round. Rnd 5: *K2tog, K2* repeat to end of round. Rnd 7: *K2tog, K1* repeat to end of round. Rnd 8: *K2tog* repeat to end of round. Break yarn, weave through remaining 6 sts. Fasten off. Make thumb:With 5mm (US 8) double points, pick up sts from the rows above and below the waste yarn as you unpick the waste yarn at the thumb placement. Divide these 12 sts onto 3 needles as follows: 3 sts each onto 2 needles from the upper row, and 6 sts onto 1 needle from the lower row. Join in more yarn and knit across the 3 sts of the first and 3 sts of the second needle. Pick up and knit 2 sts from the edge of the mitten between the second and third needle, (5 sts on the second needle). Knit across the 6 sts of the third needle. Pick up and knit 2 sts between the third and first needle and slip these 2 sts to the beginning of the first needle. ( 5 sts on the first needle).Work these 16 sts for the thumb in stocking stitch for 13 more rounds. Decrease for top of thumb: Rnd 1: *K2tog, K2* repeat to end of round. Rnd 2: *K2tog, K1* repeat to end of round. Rnd 3: *K2tog* repeat to end of round. Lining: ForLaceweight:Divide ball of lace weight mohair by winding off half into a smaller ball. Work 2 strands together. For Medium Mohair:Use a single strand of mohair for the lining. With 4.5mm (US 7) double points pick up and knit 36 sts along the inside of the mitten at the last row of ribbing beginning at the marked stitch. Work as given for the outer mitten, making sure the thumb placement corresponds to the thumb of the outer mitten. Invert and tack into the mitten at the top and at the tip of the thumb.
