The so-called Tamna' Temple 1 (T T 1) stands in the middle of Halar Kuhlan, the former Tamna1, capital of the kingdom of Qataban (Yemen). It has been excavated by W.F. Albright, J.L. Swauger and J.R. Simpson from the South Arabian Expedition of the American Foundation for the Study of Man in February-March 1951, but never published. In 1978, the French Archaeological Mission carried out some works in order to draw plans of the building. Some years later, J.L. Swauger kindly provided all the field-notes and photographs. In the light of the excavation of the Royal Palace Shaqfr of Shabwa, this paper aims to determine the significance of this major building of Tamna'. Although all epigraphical and archaeological datas have been carefully reviewed, the function of this building remains still unclear.
