The author outlines the changing approach to the theme of fatherhood, paying particular attention to psychodynamic and relational aspects of this experience, seen in the context of all the stages of family life.
The greater involvement of the father with his small child is underlined and analyzed both as an expression of increased self-awareness in the father and as a consequence of the child's ability to attract the attentio of the adults caring for him.
The reader's attention is also drawn to the difference between being a father and «feeling » oneself a father, with this considered as necessary for the understanding and satisfaction ofchidren's needs.
Après avoir montré les changements dans l'étude du thème de la paternité, on trace les aspects psychodynamiques et relationnels de cette expérience située dans le contexte des étapes de la vie familiale. On met en évidence l'implication plus grande du père dans le rapport avec le jeune enfant et on analyse ce changement à la fois comme l'expression chez le père d'une conscience de soi accrue et comme la conséquence de la capacité de l'enfant d'attirer l'attention des adultes qui s'occupent de lui. On souligne enfin la différence entre le fait d'être père et le fait de se « sentir » père, ce dernier sentiment étant un élément nécessaire à la compréhension et à la satisfaction des besoins de l'enfant.
