1.1 Ensembles classiques des matrices al´eatoires
Lath´eoriedesmatricesal´eatoires,aujourd’huiunepartieimportantedelath´eorie
des probabilit´es, a eu initialement deux motivations : les statistiques (les travaux de
Wishart sur les matrices de covariance) et la physique (les mod`eles de Hamiltoniens
al´eatoiresdeWigner).Lesucc`esdesmod`elesdematricesal´eatoiresestdu,enpartie,
aux propri´et´es d’universalit´e des valeurs propres : quand la taille d’une matrice
al´eatoire devient grande, les propri´et´es statistiques du spectre (comme la densit´e
des valeurs propres, les espacements entre les valeurs propres cons´ecutives au centre
et au bord du spectre, etc) convergent vers des limites universelles, qui ne d´epend
pasdesparticularit´esdumod`ele(commeladistributiondesentr´ees,etc).Depuis,des
nombreuses interactions entre la th´eorie des matrices al´eatoires et d’autre branches
de math´ematiques ont´et´e observ´ees, comme les alg`ebres d’op´erateurs, la th´eorie des
nombres, la combinatoire, etc.
On d´esignera par matrice al´eatoire une variable al´eatoire X : Ω→M (C) a`m×n
valeurs matricielles.
