Unfortunately it is a sealed book to the majorityof our Irish students who are not acquainted with theGerman language, and consequently the want of a grammarin English has been felt in many quarters. Since it is a partof my duties at this University to deliver two lectures onOld Irish Grammar weekly during Term, I undertook ayear ago to produce a grammar which should at least proveuseful as a book of reference, and after many distractions Ihave completed it. It has proved by no means an easy task tocompress the important facts of Old Irish grammar, togetherwith the indispensable indices, within the prescribed limitsof about two hundred page?, and no one can be more keenlyconscious of the present work's defects than the author-but IN /cur u Mhur a di<-]n'
