New Anti-Human Trafficking Information Campaign Launched In Belarus
PR Newswire MINSK, Belarus, December 11, 2012
MINSK, Belarus,December 11, 2012/PRNewswire/ --
A new information campaign against human trafficking, and labour exploitation in particular, has been launched in the Republic of Belarus. It is being held in the framework of the International Technical Assistance Project "Combating trafficking in persons: the Republic of Belarus" with financial support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). The emphasis is placed on promotion of the services provided by the toll-free hotline 113. The main target audience is men aged 18 to 45 living in towns.
The concept of the campaign was developed and implemented by the agency EZERIN COM, a leading communications company in Belarus. The main efforts will focus on dissemination information about safe travel abroad by means of making social advertising video clips to be shown on local TV channels, as well as placing billboards and posters along the main highways used by labour migrants. Significant attention will be paid to the work with the press and involvement of both governm ental organizations and NGOs.
"Substantial preliminary work has been done: a number of target audience representatives have been interviewed, the main idea has been tested on focus groups. Now we are sure that the company's mechanism will work efficiently and will help to solve such an urgent problem for Belarus as labour exploitation," says Andrei Ezerin, EZERIN COM CEO.
The problem, as law-enforcement authorities would put it, is of hidden character. The Interior Ministry while monitoring these problems in the Republic of Belarus has registered 4800 victims of human trafficking and 600 cases of labour exploitation. However, promotion of the informational hotline 113 is to make this statistics more accurate and reliable.
