One Direction for UK and Indian Leaders

PR Newswire

Thirty experienced and successful leaders from the UK and India will meet in London this week to tackle social challenges common to both countries.

They will be taking part in the Dishaa Venture (meaning 'direction' in Hindi), run by international leadership development organisation Common Purpose. The fourth Dishaa Venture to take place since being launched by British Prime Minister David Cameron in July 2010, this year's Venture will take place at the Southbank Centre, London, from 8-11 October 2013.

During the four-day Venture, participants will be set the challenge of creating a new interface that would allow for the public, private and not-for-profit sectors to work together more efficiently.

The group will have the honour of meeting the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, as he hosts a reception at City Hall for the participants.

Julia Middleton, Chief Executive of Common Purpose says, "The UK and India have huge challenges in common. Getting the next generation of their leaders together to tackle these challenges seems only right. The outcomes will strengthen relationships which defy cultural differences. Our Ventures reveal just how small the world is."

The diverse group of participants include people from organisations such as: Talk Talk Group, GSK, Titan Industries, British Red Cross, Indian Oil, Karuna Trust and Kingston University.

The Venture has international support from sponsors including Cisco, PwC, UBM and Tilda.

According to Michael Duck, Executive Vice President, UBM Asia, "[Dishaa] has already proven, and continues to show its strong potential by bringing bright young people together from India and the UK to tackle global challenges. No doubt with the next sessions and in the years to come, these links will continue to strengthen and be of immense benefit to both communities alike."
