Ukrainian Party of Regions (political party which currently has a majority vote in the parliament - Ed.) holds the largest support at 25 percent among Ukrainian citizens,according to the poll conducted by GfK NOP research company. The second positions with 17 percent support belongs to the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform (UDAR) - headed by Ukrianian professional heavyweight boxer Vitaliy Klitchko. The national poll was conducted among 3,352 residents onSeptember 12-27,2012.
While PoR and UDAR occupy the leading positions, they are followed by the United Opposition - 15 percent, the Communist Party - 9 percent, Svoboda and Ukraine Forward - 3 percent. About 13 percent of the interviewees remained undecided. The survey also revealed that improving economy and job security remain the two most important issues for Ukrainian citizens in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
In addition, the survey provides information on coalition support by the citizens. Thus the Party of Regions together with the Communist Party of Ukraine received the support of 34 percent of the sample group while UDAR together with the United Opposition secured 32 percent of the votes.
Notably, the poll revealed the increase of voting intention among those definitely or probably voting from 68 to 73 percent compared to the previous month.
OnOctober 28, 2012Ukraine will hold parliamentary elections which will be monitored by international observers to ensure the democratic procedure. Hundreds of international observers, including official representatives of Canada, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, United States, Finland, etc. and a number of international organizations have already announced their plans to monitor the elections in Ukraine. For instance, European Network of Election Monitoring Organizations (ENEMO) has already launched their observation campaign in Ukraine and will provide 400 short-term observers.
Notably, the new election law was approved in cooperation with the country's opposition. The parliament ruled to equip most polling stations with web-cameras, broadcasting the signal from the stations online.
