Very Rare and Important 15th Century Medallion up for Auction

LONDON,May 30, 2012/PRNewswire/ -- th An important and rare medallion, discovered inEuropeand dated to the 15 century, will be presented in an auction inPortugalonJune 4th.

Composed of an alloy of copper and applications of gold, the piece displays the letter Y surrounded by the inscription - eteroae. leal (loyal). Amor (Love). The figuration of the letter Y is known since at least the late twelfth century and emerged as an interpretation of an ancient emblem representing the dilemma of man facing the choice between good and evil. The so calledLittera Pythagoraewas assumed as a symbol of Jesus, referring th to the first letter of his name, Yesus. In the 15century, the Y was also associated with royalty. Subjected to laboratory tests to validate the authenticity, surprising results demonstrate that this very rare medallion was once covered with gold.
