GUESTEDI TO RIALFROM THEDESK OFBYCAITLINM. WOODS Y.E.S.—My Perspective Caitlin participated in the 1998 Y. Program and served as an NRA In NRA Headquarters during Summe 2002. One morning, as the photographer arranged the Y.E.S. class of 1998 to pose for a group photo, I watched NRA staff members walking the hallways. Some paused to smile at us, but many passed intent on their destination. I marveled that their activity, in some way, contributed to Y.E.S., to protecting the shooting sports I enjoy, and to preserving the Second Amendment and the Constitution in its entirety. I wanted to be a part of that effort and was suddenly moved by the conviction: I will work here someday. That day occurred four years later when I entered NRA Headquarters again on a beautiful May morning to begin my internship. I began working for the Women’s Programs Department and joine the Development Department a few weeks later. Mornings I helped with Refus®danmtiicA V  oeBeT Women on Target™. In the afternoons, I learned about fundraising with The NRA Foundation. Moving to the DC Metro area was a frightful adventure that I would not have considered if I had not attended Y.E.S. I had such a fantastic time with Y.E.S. that I encourage others every chance I have to apply to the program. I am excited each time a familiar name is added to the list of alum The shooting sports have been an important part of my life even before I became a member of NRA. When I earned my hunter education certificate in the seventh grade, I joined my parents in the cold mornings during deer season and tromped through dewy fields beneath a glistening Moun Shasta for pheasant. I enjoy introducing people to shooting almost as much as I enjoy shooting. I have worked five summers at the Whittington Adventure Camp, and during high school volunteered at the local trap club with the annual Ducks Unlimited Greenwings event and for hunter education practical examinations. My work with the Women’s Programs Department continued the education Y.E.S. beg Now I can explain the types of programs available to women who would otherwise have no opportun to learn about firearms. My internship with NRA gave me an invaluable experience—one that will help me decide my future relationship with NRA, a relationship that changed dramatically since my participation in th Y.E.S. program. I hope to see Y.E.S. continue to develop these relationships with the youth of NRA, who are responsible for perpetuating NRA’s mission to preserve and protect the Constitution of the United States. Y.E.S. makes this responsibility real to participants through discussions and immers in historical sites of America, and, equally important, Y.E.S. prepares students for that responsibilit TRADITIONSFall/Winter 20023
