Coleman Sundome 4-Person Tent Review The Coleman Sundome 4is one of Coleman’s classic Sundome series of dome style tents. Each Sundome tent has the same construction styling and easy 10-15 minute setup characteristics. They are not suitable for long term use or for winter conditions. They are ideal for the rest of the year and for a couple ofweeks’ worth of solid outdoor activity. The Coleman Sundome 4 tent is currently the best selling tent on Amazonand it has hundreds of reviews all over the web. Owners rate it between 4.1 and 5 stars on a variety of sites. But that doesn’t mean everyone is happy with it. Things to Know About the Coleman Sundome There’s no entrance portal where you can take off muddy boots and wet gear instead of having to drag them into the tent interior. It does have a small welcome shelter and mat plus the same thing at the back, without the mat, to shelter the window in light rain. Unless you are the Incredible Hulk (do you need to look it up?), you are not going to want to backpack this baby too far. It’s probably best suited to car camping where you can drive it in. Coleman seems to agree because the Sundome also has a zippered flap at the front of the tent to let you run a power cord through without having to open the door. That sounds like a car camper to me. Coleman throws in some cute design features like a ground vent, electrical access, center light hanging and small storage netting that will keep your bits and pieces off the ground and in plain sight. You can see two storage nets in this shot but the specs say you only get one.
Is The Coleman Sundome 4-Person Tent Big Enough for Four?
For this 9’x7′ version, Coleman claims the Sundome 4 will comfortably sleep 4 campers but that’s a bunch of people who don’t need to shelter their equipment too.
Have a look at the interior shot, above, and you will see what I mean. This photo is something that Coleman themselves have set up so you can expect that they were wanting show it at its best. Even with their layout, there are only two beds in there and two pillows. Let’s face it, you don’t need such big beds when you are supposed to be roughing it.
You can get an idea of the way the tent is setup with supporting rods on the outside, extra outer skin and the good sized window with ground vent at the back of the tent.
You can fit a queen size bed in their and still have plenty of surrounding room for getting around inside and for keeping your gear out of the weather.

Sundome Features To Know
The Coleman Sundome 4 includes a good sized, zip up D-shaped door that will make it easy to get in and out. You also get good ventilation from the ground vent at the back along with the big hooded window and the mesh vents in the roof.
The extra fly means you can keep getting airflow even when it’s raining outside. It clips onto the tent poles but does not reach all the way to the ground so it’s not going to give you much protection from sideways rain. But on the other hand, your view is also not being blocked either because the mesh windows do not need to be covered when the rain fly in place.
Like the door (and its window), the back window can be fully zipped up to keep the rain out.
The Sundome has strong 1000D polyethylene flooring that wraps up at the sides in a bathtub style that gives more protection when the weather goes foul. It’s good practice to invest in a standard under tarp for some really solid protection from ground water. Belt and braces but that’s the way I rock.
And the whole construction design is made for quick and easy setup and you’ll never lose the instructions because they are sewn into the fabric. You get what I consider only the bare essentials as far as pegs are concerned, so I’d also invest in some better extra pegs just in case. Hey, the tent costs practically nothing and extra precautions are something youcan’t buy when you are out doors in badweather you didn’t expect.
Here are some suggestions for your camping extras:
We’re not saying you need them, but if you want some extra camping comfort…

Some campers like a little extra to tie the tent down in case of really bad weather.

The thing I like about Coleman tents is that they know their market and what they need in an excellent low cost tent. Their Sundome tents are easy to set up and take down, they have good quality (not top quality) fabrics and construction techniques that make the tents good in most heavy weather conditions. Although all main fly and floor seams are factory sealed, some buyers like to add extrawaterproofing but it’s not essential.
All in all, the Coleman Sundome 4-Person Tent deserves to be the best selling tent.
It is made to serve a particular type of camper who doesn’t need 4 season quality nor to be able to backpack the tent into tough locations. The Coleman Sundome 4 has the ease of installation, floor space and internal height that will suit the vast majority of people who want an easy and rewarding camping experience safely protected from most weather conditions.
