Software applied to the teaching and learning processes is one of the most relevant technological contributions to education area. The technology and education symbiotic relationship appears in the early beginning of the software history, especially as a distance learning support. This way, educational software evolves as the same level than its support technology, opening new flexible and powerful roads that enrich substantially the instructional processes. Also, knowing the great guided milestones of the educational software is necessary (especially intelligent and web-bases capabilities) in order to understand and to make the best use of the future trends that are already shaping up as a reality in this area.[ES] La aplicación del software a los procesos de enseñanza/aprendizaje es uno de los grandes aportes tecnológicos al área educativa. Esta relación simbiótica entre tecnología y educación aparece en un momento temprano en la historia del software, especialmente como un apoyo a la educación a distancia, de forma que el software educativo va a evolucionar a la par que la tecnología que lo soporta, abriendo caminos cada día más flexibles y potentes que enriquecen enormemente los procesos instruccionales. Es necesario conocer los grandes hitos que han guiado la evolución del software educativo, haciendo especial hincapié en las características inteligentes y, sobre todo, en la influencia de la web, para así estar en situación de comprender y sacar el mejor partido de las tendencias que en este campo ya se perfilan como una realidad.[EN] Software applied to the teaching and learning processes is one of the most relevant technological contributions to education area. Universidad de Salamanca RESUMEN: La aplicación del software a los procesos de enseñanza/aprendizaje es uno de los grandes aportes tecnológicos al área educativa. Esta relación simbiótica entre tecno- logía y educación aparece en un momento temprano en la historia del software, espe- cialmente como un apoyo a la educación a distancia, de forma que el software educativo va a evolucionar a la par que la tecnología que lo soporta, abriendo caminos cada día más flexibles y potentes que enriquecen enormemente los procesos instruccionales. Es nece- sario conocer los grandes hitos que han guiado la evolución del software educativo, haciendo especial hincapié en las características inteligentes y, sobre todo, en la influencia de la web, para así estar en situación de comprender y sacar el mejor partido de las tenden- cias que en este campo ya se perfilan como una realidad.
