The Comanche homeland

The Comanche (Comanche: N?m?n??) are a Native American realm pictured in the Controlling Plains whose pioneering territory, known as Comancheria, consisted of recent day eastern Prevailing Mexico, southeastern Colorado, southwestern Kansas, western Oklahoma, in addition to most of northwest Texas In addition to Northern Chihuahua. The Comanche people are federally legendary as the Comanche Nation, headquartered taking place in Lawton, Oklahoma.[1]

Post-contact, the Comanches were hunter-gatherers and a horse culture. There may have been as manifold as 45,000 Comanches set in the late 18th century.[2] They were the prevailing tribe on the Southern Plains with often took captives mounted in weaker tribes right through conflict, selling them as slaves to the Spanish plus consequent Mexican settlers. They also took thousands of captives mounted in the Spanish, Mexican, plus American settlers.[3]

Today, the Comanche Nation has 15,191 members, approximately 7,763 of whom reside emerge tribal jurisdictional area around the Lawton, Fort Sill, in addition to surrounding areas of southwest Oklahoma.[4] The Comanche State Homecoming Powwow is held annually put in Walters, Oklahoma in mid-July.[citation needed]

The Comanche language is a Numic language of the Uto-Aztecan family, sometimes classified as a Shoshoni dialect.[5] Individual about 1% of Comanches go over their language today.[5][6]
