TYPES OF AIR CONDITIONING FILTERS

Filters keep dust, bacteria, and other contaminants out of your air conditioning system and help to purify the air that circulates throughout your home or office. Frequent inspection of your air conditioning filter will ensure that your air conditioning system will run efficiently. There comes a time when you need to replace your filter and there are several that you may choose from. Choosing which filter you will use can be very important.

STANDARD AIR CONDITIONING FILTER

The typical filter used is known as a standard air conditioner filter. • This filter is made of strips of fiberglass and usually framed out with a cardboard material. Standard air conditioner filters are designed to remove large particles in the air. They do not however catch small debris very well. You must change these types of filters every month.

PLEATED AIR CONDITIONING FILTER

Another choice of air conditioning filters is the pleated filter. The design • on a pleated air conditioning filter allows for a greater surface area compared to a standard filter. They do this by having the filter material folded back and forth. These types of filters catch about twice as much debris in the air than a standard filter and only need to be changed every one to three months. This depends on the environment. If you have pets or the filter is near a kitchen, you may have to replace these once a month.

ELECTROSTATIC

The last type of air conditioning filter that you may come across is • known as electrostatic. An electrostatic air conditioner filter uses filter media that has an electric charge that attracts contaminants. These are by far one of the best filters you can have in your air conditioning system. They can have a built-in electrostatic charge, or else create a charge from the air moving through the system. You only need to replace them once every three months.
