vision therapy is not just   For the behavioural optometrist vision therapy is a lot more than simply doing eye exercises.  Eye exercises traditionally are going to strengthen eye muscles and gives flexibility for the visual system. They will tend to be uninteresting, tedious and long, and very few people can see them through to gain the complete effect. On top of that, when they are used in place of reading glasses or support lenses, they have to be revisited many times to preserve the positive effect that's been achieved.  On the other hand, vision therapy goes a great deal further and is way more interesting for a kid. Although some portions of traditional eye exercises are included, behavioural optometrists use vision therapy in terms of developing the visual skills that are required for learning, and are lacking in kids with learning difficulties.  As a child begins to read and write, they have to develop certain visual skills to complete the job effectively. Skills like being able to control their eye movements, visualization to remember spelling words, shape perception and focus or eye coordination are important visual skills to help youngsters learn to read and write. If a child is struggling in class, typically these skills are either not developed or are underdeveloped, and the behavioral optometrist sees therapy as an opportunity to improve these skills.  It goes far beyond just developing the strength of muscles in the eyes, but concentrates on the skill sets that they will need in a classroom and when reading. Like any skills, they can be learned and developed through repetition, and these therapies may take the form of games to kids enjoy playing.  If your child really wants to learn to play the guitar, you do not just give them a guitar let them figure it out! Generally, we send youngsters to guitar lessons so they are able to understand the skills which are necessary to play an instrument. However, our only answer to reading problems is to ask the child to read more, causing more frustration for the parent as well as the child.  Vision therapy can produce the skill sets a child needs to read effectively, so they start to improve in their reading and learning rather than getting frustrated. Using vision therapy we will help kids control their eye movements, recognize and process words with ease and so learn to flow in their reading. This helps them understand and enjoy reading rather than hating it.  Furthermore this is considerably more effective and profitable in the long-term then doing traditional eye exercises. It is interesting, challenging and can have a direct bearing on a child's capacity to read, write and spell.  In case you are concerned with your child's learning, avoid the frustration and expense of traditional eye exercises and talk to a behavioural optometrist about vision therapy.
