1 AP Chemistry, Labs and Me 2 The Introduction For reasons that I find frankly a little confusing, some of you may know that my reputation tends to go before me in general, and in particular in relation to the role of labs and lab assessment in AP Chemistry. In all seriousness, I think I am a little misunderstood. At least some of that misunderstanding is based in cultural differences that exist in relation to high school chemistry education between me and most of the people in this room.

4 ContentsAbout this guide
This guide provides instructions for moving to Lion Server
from a previous version of the server or for migrating data to
a Mac with Lion Server.
Upgrading and Migrating contains instructions for reusing data and settings of previous
server versions. There are two approaches:
Perform an upgrade installation. This approach leaves all data and settings in place
and lets you reuse your existing server hardware for Lion Server. You can perform an
upgrade installation of v10.6.6 or later servers.
Manually migrate data and settings. This approach transfers data and settings to a
diferent computer—one running Lion Server. You can migrate data and settings
from v10.5.8 and v10.6 or later servers.
What’s new in Lion Server
Lion Server has major changes in several key areas:
Lateral Migrations: The migration of Lion Server to Lion Server is supported.
Server app Services are administrated by the new Server app.
PostgreSQL: MySQL is replaced with PostgreSQL.
Tomcat: Support for Tomcat is removed from Lion Server.
Axis: Support for Axis is removed from Lion Server.
Mobile Access: Support for Mobile Access is removed from Lion Server.
Print service: Print service is replaced with CUPS.
QuickTime Streaming Server (QTSS): Support for QTSS is removed from Lion Server.

PrefaceWhat’s in this guide
This guide includes the following sections:
Chapter 1, “Before you begin,” summarizes upgrade and migration options and
requirements. Read this chapter to understand your options, and then see the
chapter relevant to your upgrade or migration scenario.
Chapter 2, “Upgrading Mac OS X Server v10.6,” describes how to upgrade a v10.6.6 or
later server to Lion Server.
Chapter 3, “Migrating from Mac OS X Server v10.5.8 or later,” describes how to migrate
data from a v10.5.8 or later server to a diferent computer running Lion Server.
Using onscreen help
You can get task instructions onscreen in Help Center while you’re managing
Lion Server. You can view help on a server, or on an administrator computer.
(An administrator computer is a Mac with Lion and the Server app installed.)
To get the most recent onscreen help for Lion Server:
m Open the Server app, Server Admin, or Workgroup Manager and then:
Use the Help menu to search for a task you want to perform.
Choose Help > Server Help, or Help > Server Admin Help, or Help > Workgroup
Manager Help to browse and search the help topics.
To see the most recent server help topics:
m Make sure the server or administrator computer is connected to the Internet while
you’re getting help.
Viewing PDF guides onscreen
While reading the PDF version of a guide onscreen:
Show bookmarks to see the guide’s outline, and click a bookmark to jump to the
corresponding section.
Search for a word or phrase to see a list of places where it appears in the guide. Click
a listed place to see the page where it occurs.
Click a cross-reference to jump to the referenced section. Click a web link to visit the
website in your browser.
6 Preface About this guidePrinting PDF guides
If you want to print a guide, you can take these steps to save paper and ink:
Save ink or toner by not printing the cover page.
Save color ink on a color printer by looking in the panes of the Print dialog for an
option to print in grays or black and white.
Reduce the bulk of the printed document and save paper by printing more than
one page per sheet of paper. In the Print dialog, change Scale to 115%. Then choose
Layout from the untitled pop-up menu. If your printer supports two-sided (duplex)
printing, select one of the Two-Sided options. Otherwise, choose 2 from the Pages
per Sheet pop-up menu, and optionally choose Single Hairline from the Border
menu. (If you’re using Mac OS X v10.4 or earlier, the Scale setting is in the Page
Setup dialog and the Layout settings are in the Print dialog.)
You may want to enlarge the printed pages even if you don’t print double sided,
because the PDF page size is smaller than standard printer paper. In the Print dialog or
Page Setup dialog, try changing Scale to 115%.

Periodically, Apple posts revised help pages and new editions of guides. Some revised
help pages update the latest editions of the guides.
