1 1ères DOCTORIALES du Tourisme de la Chaire « Culture, Tourisme, développement » TOURISME / TOURISM Concepts et méthodes à la croisée des disciplines Concepts and methods at the disciplinary crossroads 14-16 septembre 2011 LONDOÑO LEAL MARIA DEL PILAR Gastronomic tourism as an option for local development: A gaze through the eyes of the stakeholders involved in Catalonia- Spain To revitalize tourism offers, historically based on sun and beach tourism, the Catalan government focused during the last decade on gastronomic tourism, through the creation of entities such as the Gastronomic Club in 2001 or the Gastroteca in 2006. These entities link different stakeholders both from public and private sides (travel agencies, universities, private foundations, NGOs, producers, etc) interested in gastronomy, responding to this growing/increasing world-wide phenomenon. This paper analyzes the possibilities of gastronomy tourism in Catalonia and its relationship with local development at different levels; through the perceptions and actions carried out by the stakeholders involved in this strategy. Results could answer to the question: what kind of roles do public and private sectors play in the promotion and diffusion of gastronomy tourism? Additional issues concern the identification of subjects necessary to study this “new phenomenon of tourism”.
