HISTOIRE

Tout commence en 1958, lorsque Jean Bousquet, originaire de Nîmes et titulaire d’un CAP de tailleur, monte
à Paris pour créer une affaire artisanale de pantalons pour femmes.

Le 16 mars 1962, il dépose la marque « Jean Cacharel », et obtient dès l’année suivante, le 8 novembre 1963,
son premier succès grâce au désormais célèbre chemisier en crépon rose photographié par Peter Knapp en
couverture du magazine Elle, et aussitôt surnommé « Le Cacharel ».

Les stylistes Emmanuelle Khan puis Corinne Sarrut sont très vite engagées pour dessiner les collections. En
1968, Sarah Moon, jeune photographe inconnue à l’époque, rencontre Jean Bousquet. C’est le début d’une
collaboration heureuse, enrichie par l’arrivée du publicitaire Robert Delpire.

A eux quatre ils donnent naissance à l’univers de Cacharel : un univers romantique, immortalisé à jamais par
des images inoubliables, envoûtantes, rêveuses et poétiques.

A la fin des années 60 éclosent les premiers chemisiers Liberty. Cacharel est désormais devenue une
marque florissante, une référence de mode, dont les robes Liberty explosent avec la génération des 70’s.
Après avoir lancé ses premières collections Femme, Homme, Enfant, et obtenu l’oscar de l’exportation en
1969, Jean Bousquet diversifie ses activités. Il lance le parfum Anaïs Anaïs, encore à ce jour l’un des premiers
parfums mondiaux, puis Loulou, Noa, Amor Amor, Scarlett et le tout dernier : Amor Amor Forbidden Kiss.

Au début des années 2000, Cacharel entreprend une profonde mutation pour retrouver l’énergie créative de
ses débuts et s’adjoint le talent des designers Clements-Ribeiro. Cacharel défile de nouveau dans le cadre
de la semaine de la mode parisienne et renoue avec son succès de jadis.

C’est ensuite aux anglais Eley Kishimoto, rois de l’imprimé, de dessiner pendant 3 saisons les collections de
la Maison de la rue Tronchet. Ils laissent place en 2009 au talent créatif de Cédric Charlier, designer belge
qui amorce le retour de la marque vers un romantisme certain et des coupes précises pendant 4 saisons.

En novembre 2009, le rapprochement de Cacharel avec le groupe italien AEFFE (Alberta Ferretti, Philosophy,
Moschino, Pollini…), par la signature d’un contrat de licence permet à la Maison de se renforcer et de se
déployer sur le plan international.

Aujourd’hui Cacharel est vendu dans un réseau de boutiques multimarques et concept-stores en France et
à l’international (Barneys, Saks, Harvey Nichols, Le Printemps…) alors que les nouveaux designers Dawei
Sun et Ling Liu présentent la nouvelle collection été 2012 et renouent avec les codes de la maison : fraîcheur,
romantisme et féminité.

Cinquante ans après sa création, Cacharel reste une marque iconique entrée dans l’histoire du prêt à porter,
ayant créée la silhouette d’une femme assumée qui aime jouer avec la mode sans jamais en subir les diktats.

HISTORY

It all started in 1958 when Jean Bousquet, born in Nîmes, and just qualified tailor, came to Paris to launch
a small business of women’s pants. In March 1962, he named his society after the name of a bird from
Camargue: “Jean Cacharel” and the year after he obtained his first great success when the photographer
Peter Knapp took a picture of the now legendary crepe pink shirt that ended up on the cover of the magazine
Elle, the shirt was then called “le Cacharel”.

Emmanuelle Khan and Corinne Sarrut are quickly hired to design the collections. In 1968, Sarah Moon, a
young unknown photographer, meets Jean Bousquet. It’s the beginning of a happy collaboration strengthe-
ned with the arrival of publicist, Robert Delpire. The four of them give birth to the Cacharel universe: a roman-
tic one, immortalized through unforgettable, poetical pictures.

The blossom of Liberty shirts and dresses at the end of the 60’s makes of Cacharel a reference of the 70’s
mood.

Having launched his first menswear, womenswear and childrenswear collections, and having been awarded
the Oscar for exportation in 1969, Jean Bousquet diversifies his activities by branching out into perfumery:
Anaïs Anaïs, the first perfume remains today one of the world’s best-selling fragrances, Loulou, Noa, Amor

Amor and Scarlett will follow. The latest one came out this year: Amor Amor Forbidden Kiss.

At the beginning of 2000, Cacharel undertakes a serious change to find again the creative energy of its start:
the talented designers Clements-Ribeiro allow Cacharel to participate to the Parisian Fashion Week and to
tie again with success.

It’s then the English kings of prints Eley Kishimoto’s turn to draw the collections of the Tronchet House during
3 seasons. In 2009, the Belgian designer Cédric Charlier, designs romantic collections with precise cuts
during 4 seasons.

In November 2009, Cacharel signs a license contract with Italian Group AEFFE (Alberta Ferretti, Philosophy,
Moschino, Pollini…), therefore the French House, strongest, really opens out internationally.

Nowadays Cacharel is sold in a network of multibrands stores and concept stores in France and worldwide
(Barneys, Saks, Harvey Nichols, le Printemps...) so as the new designers Dawei Sun and Ling Liu present
the new spring-summer 2012 collection and get back to the traditional house codes: freshness, romanticism
and femininity.
