Penn State Cooperative Extension is holding farmenergy efficiency workshops for engineers, technicians, extension educators, and farmers. Experts present the latest information for participants to develop solid skillsin assessing a farm's or greenhouse's energy efficiency.
Dairy Farm Energy Efficiency
Date: June 16, 2009
Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Description:Dairy farms need to be energy efficient to compete in the today's market place. Rising energy prices and increased competition absolutely make it important thatfarmers use energy efficiently. Dairy farm energy expert David Ludington will give you the tools and knowledge needed to inspect a dairy farm’s energy systems and determine where savings can be found. The workshop includes a visit to a nearby commercial farm for a handson demonstration of energy assessment methods.
Who should attend:The workshop will benefit agricultural professionals who work with the dairy industry, farmers who want to improve their facilities, and energy industry professionals such as engineers, technical representatives, and service providers interested in dairy farm energy efficiency.
Greenhouse Energy Efficiency

Description:With the increasing consumer demand for local products and the rising cost of imported flowers and vegetables, greenhouse growers in the Northeast today have real opportunities to develop their businesses. Rising energy costs, however, significantly affect operating costs. Greenhouse growers who are energy efficient can thrive in changing markets.
Professors Robert Berghage and Jay Holcomb's program will cover the fundamentals of greenhouse energy efficiency in terms of facility use, heating, cooling, controls, and lighting. Participants will gain a balanced understanding of the principles and the practical aspects of making a greenhouse facilityenergy efficient and productive.
Who should attend:The workshop will benefit agricultural professionals and educators who are working with greenhouse systems, growers wanting to improve their energy efficiency, and energy services professionals looking to understand greenhouse systems.
