SETTING UP FOR A NEW DRAWING
1. Click inside box 7.The pop up list shows different sizes of paper. We are going to use A size (8.5”x11”). Click on the A. 2. Click inside box 6. In the pop up window type in 1:1 and hit the enter key. This is the scale of the drawing. 1:1 represents full scale 1:2 represents ½ scale etc. 3. Click inside box 5. In the pop up window pick the inch symbol (“). This will be our unit of measurement. 4. Click inside box 3. From the color palette pick red (upper left corner) with the mouse. Click OK. This will be the color of the lines we draw. 5. Look at letter a on the picture above. This box should be highlighted different from the rest of the boxes. If it isn’t, use the mouse to highlight it. This symbol represents lines. When it’s highlighted you will only be able to draw straight lines. 6. Look at letter b. Make sure it’s highlighted. It represents a solid line. 7. Look at letter c. Make sure it’s highlighted. It represents the thinnest line that can be drawn. 8. Make sure letters d and g are highlighted. They will be explained later. 9. Check your screen and see if you have orth trap lines. If not go to Toolkit on the main menu and pick Orth Trap from the list. These lines are horizontal and vertical and at right angles to each other.
3
1.Draw lines similar to the example above. To draw a line place the cursor in a starting position by moving the mouse. Left click and move the mouse to the finish point and left click again. NOTE that the Orth trap lines will always move to the new starting point. You can disregard this for now. 2. Place the cursor at a new starting point and left click. If you right click the mouse before you draw a line, it will terminate the command and let you start over. 3. Draw a line on the screen. If you want to get rid of this line right away, go to Edit on the main menu and pick undo. The line will go away. If you keep hitting undo the program will keep removing drawing steps in reverse order. 4. Get your drawing back to look like the example. 5. Click box e on the screen. Small boxes should appear at the ends of the lines.
4
6. These boxes are called snap points. 7. Drag the cursor on top of one of these points. You will see when it gets close to the box it is attracted to it like a magnet. When the cursor snaps to the point press the left mouse button and you will find that a new line is started exactly at the end of this line. 8. Find a point on your drawing where two lines cross each other and there is no snap point. In order to draw a line that intersects with this point, we have to add a snap point. Click box f.The cursor will turn into a box.Drag the box over the intersection of the two lines and left click the mouse. This will add a snap point. When you are done using this featureright click the mouse and the regular cursor will return. 9. If you click box e again the snap boxes will go away. Even though the boxes are not visible the snap points and magnetic attraction is still there. Often it is easier to draw without the boxes on the screen. 10. Leave the lines you drew on the screen. Go to VIEW on the main menu and pick ZOOM. Place the cursor at a point where two lines cross and left click. Move the mouse a little and you will see a box on the screen. When the box gets about 1” wide, left click again. You will have zoomed into the area that the box was around. To get back to your original drawing click VIEW on the main menu and pick REDRAW.Try again on other areas. 11. Go to EDIT on main menu and pick Wipe. Pick YES on the pop up. This should clear the page of any drawing. Be careful with this command, there is no way to get the drawing back. 12. Move the cursor to the starting point shown on the example below. Click and notice that the orth lines move to this point. Move the cursor over towards the right side and allow the end of the line to snap onto the horizontal orth line.DO NOT CLICK THE MOUSE Using the number keys type in 5 and then hit the enter key on your keyboard. After entering the cursor is free to move around the screen using the mouse. Left click onto the right side of this line and drag the cursor towards the bottom of the screen and snap it onto the vertical orth line. Enter the distance 2.98 and hit the enter key. Snap onto the bottom of this line and go left on the horizontal orth trap line. Enter 1 ¼ (type 1 leave space type 1 type / key type 4) then hit the enter key. Join the end of this line with the beginning line.THIS EXAMPLE SHOWS METHODS OF ENTERING LINES ON A DRAWING.
13. Add the other lines as shown above, coming from the upper right corner. (NO PARTICULAR DIMENSION) Make sure the lines snap into the corner before drawing. When drawing lines without dimension move the mouse to the desired location and left click again.
5
14. Go to EDIT on the main menu and select ERASE. You should see the palette shown above. Notice that the cursor is now a box. Make sure the box labeled “highlighted” is highlighted. 15. Highlight the PARTIAL LINE box. 16. Place the cursor on top of a line and left click the mouse. Note that small boxes will appear at the beginning and end of the line that will be erased. Because it is a partial line erase it will only pick the part of a line up to the point where it intersects with another line. You can select as many lines as you want and then select the CHECK MARK on the palette to erase the lines. While you are selecting lines if you make a mistake in picking a line just pick it a second time to get rid of the command. 17. Pick the whole line command and then select a line. Using this command will erase an entire line even if there are lines running through it. 18. To get out of erase pick the bottom right symbol on the palette (looks like a C with an arrow). You can also get out by right clicking your mouse or use the escape key on your keyboard. (Esc)
Go back to page 2 and make sure you have everything set up for a new drawing. Also make sure box e is highlighted.
Go to EDIT on the main menu and pick wipe so that there is a clean screen.
