Ph.D.. Proposal 2010 Traffic Prediction and Collaborative Ramp Metering Control: Application to Grenoble south ring Supervisor : Carlos Canudas de Wit carlos.canudas-de-wit@gipsa-lab.inpg.frControl system Department, GIPSA-lab, Equipe NeCS. st ndMonth Salary: 1 947 (1 & 2 year), 2 048 (3rd year) Euros (INRIA-contract), Start: Sept. 2010-2013 Context. NeCS is a joint CNRS (GIPSA-lab)-INRIA team. The team is a bi-located at INRIA (Montbonnot) and at the GIPSA-lab (at the Grenoble campus). The team goal is to develop a new control framework for assessing problems raised by the consideration of distributed communication and sensing in applications like the traffic modeling, prediction and control, as considered in this project. Different types of commercial technologies in sensor networks allows to finely to measure traffic information at distributed points of the road. These include magnetometers WSN technology for vehicle flows and velocity. Using macroscopic fluid-like models is an interesting option to develop innovative traffic management policies able to improve the infrastructure operations. This includes: automatic and distributed model calibration, traffic prediction and estimation, identification to origin-to-destination paths, travelling time prediction, and important items to implement efficient Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) such as traffic responsive ramp metering and varying speed limit as ...
