Connecting an Apple Macbook to Education Queensland’s 3G network   This document provides a step by step guide to connecting your Apple MacBook laptop to the EQ 3G wireless network.

Before completing the below instructions, please ensure you refer to the Telstra Ultimate Mobile Broadband USB Modem Quick Start Guide delivered with your SIM card, for instructions on how to insert the Telstra SIM card into the Ultimate USB. Detailed information on how to install the SIM card is located on page 3 of the Quick Start Guide.

If you experience difficulty in completing this process or need further assistance, please contact the Computers for Teachers team   

1. Log on to your Apple MacBook laptop.   2. Insert your 3G USB Ultimate Telstra wireless adapter into one of the laptop’s available USB ports.

The Telstra Wireless Broadband window will open.   Note: If this window does not open please contact the Service Centre 1800 680 665 for assistance.   3. Click Installer mpkg .

The Install Telstra Connection Manager window will open.

The Software License Agreement window will open.   7. Please read the information provided in the Software License Agreement .     8. Click   Continue .    

A message box will open prompting you to agree to the terms and conditions of the software license agreement.   9. Click   Agree .

The Standard Install on “Macintosh HD” window will open.

A warning message will open prompting you to restart the laptop once installation is complete.   14. Click Continue Installation .

The installation process will now begin.

 

Do not close any windows or navigate from the install

window during this process.

The installation summary window will open.   15. Click Restart .  

Once the laptop has restarted A new network interface has been detected window will open.   16. Click Network Preferences .

17. Click the Settings icon.

 

18. Select Set Service Order .

The Service Order window will open.   19. Please arrange the Service Order list as follows:  

a. Ethernet b. Airport c. Direct IP d. Bluetooth DUN e. FireWire f. AirCard 312U

  20. Click OK .

The Network window will open.   21. Select Direct IP .   22. Click Advanced .     Note: If Ethernet Adapter en2 is displayed in the side bar network list you are using the Apple Macbook Leopard operating system. This system is not compatible with the 3G EQ wireless network and you will not be able to complete this process.
