A Fishy Story Vitality andtotal wellness is not something you get instantly, it starts with good eating habits and practicing a healthy lifestyle. Over the years, people have been searching far and wide for the silver bullet that works like a cureall medicine. But there’s no secret to optimum health, the key is chiefly based on balanced diet and living a healthy life. We might as well start with healthy eating. Well, all healthy diets almost always contain fish. Health experts recommend fish as it is low in fat with fewer calories than other meat sources. It's also one of nature's most versatile foods since it is high in protein and also an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids. Healthy ways to enjoy fish include baked, poached, grilled and steamed. The health benefits of fish have been questioned because of the overwhelming concerns about environmental problems and health risks caused by pollutant. We know there is much in the news about the mercury levels in fatty fish but the benefits still outweighs the negative. Harvard study recommended eating fish after reviewing its health effects and results were all still in favor of eating fish. There are just some fish choices that are far better than others. Fishes like shark, swordfish, marlin, ray, gemfish and southern blue fin tuna are considered high in mercury and may pose a risk to the nervous system. The most beneficial fish in this context is oily fish such as salmon, trout, herring, sardines, tuna and mackerel which are rich in omega 3. Studies have shown that fish alleviates a range of ailments like: Asthma – Studies found that children who eat fish are less likely to develop asthma. Cardiovascular disease – Eating fish lowers blood pressure, reduces blood clotting, and boosts good cholesterol. Depression  Depression is linked to low levels of omega 3 fatty acids in the brain and eating fish regularly will provide you with these essential nutrients that will help lessen the incidence of depression. Inflammation  Omega 3 fatty acids, through several mechanisms, regulate your body's inflammation cycle, which prevents and relieves painful conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, cystitis and autoimmune disease.
