ABSTRACT Abstract Today’s new engineering processes connect more strongly all the various disciplines together, integrated at the process level as well as through the support of communication and flow of information. Moreover, globalisation has created a need to collaborate and compete with counterparts located thousands of miles away. Bridging the geographical and organisational distances between the teams involved in such projects, especially across several time zones, requires additional activities and efforts. These additional efforts translate to a substantial planning, coordination and control overhead in the daily work of projects.
