Qualifications Awarded: (i) In order to obtain a Postgraduate Certificate, a candidate must obtain an average mark of 50% or more in 60 credits comprising the four 15-credit modules. (ii) In order to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma, a candidate must obtain an average mark of 50% or more in 120 credits of taught modules. (iii) In order to graduate with an MSc, an average mark of more than 50% is required (i.e. from 180 credits, comprising the taught modules and the individual project). (iv) An MSc with distinction will be awarded in cases of exceptional merit; this will normally require an average mark of 70% or above in the taught and group project modules and 70% or above in the individual project. Notes: (i) The degree of Master of Science may be awarded with distinction in cases of exceptional merit. (i) The taught modules are assessed by means of open and closed book examination papers and a range of continuously assessed work. In addition, M.Sc. students are required to produce an Individual Project dissertation and to give an Individual Project oral presentation. An M.Sc. dissertation viva may be called at the discretion of the M.Sc. examiners. (ii) To proceed to an individual project, candidates must achieve an average mark of 50% or above in the other modules. (iii) To obtain the credits for a particular module, a mark of 40% or above must be obtained in the module. MSc/Postgraduate Diploma Environmental Informatics Period of Registration: One year full-time or two years part-time Entry Requirements: Candidates will normally have an upper second class honours degree or equivalent in a cognate discipline (e.g. environmental science, computer science). Candidates with a lower second class honours degree or relevant work experience may also be considered. Course Aims: The course aims to provide students with a broad-based education in scientific research, the sustainable management of natural resources and geographical information sciences. Curriculum: Candidates take five core modules and five option modules as detailed below. Candidates for the MSc also undertake a dissertation of 10,000–12,000 words.
