Bulletins et Mémoires de la Société d'anthropologie de Paris - Année 1972 - Volume 9 - Numéro 3 - Pages 177-182Summary. Description of an abacus used to determine the stature from the lenght of long bones. After a short review of the main landmarks in identification of the skeletal structures, the author describes then a new method used to determine the stature from the lenght of long bones. 414 non putrid corpses of both sexes, their stature being known, their ages were between 22 and 65 years, with a normal type-distribution, have been studied. The analysis of their measurements, using statistical new methods, has led to draw up graphs plotted on a movable disk as compared to a fenestrated disk. This method represents a fast usable abacus which helps to determine the stature immediatly, the lenght of one or more long bones being known (thigh-bone, shin-bone, radius, fibula). This method is much more accurate than any existing table or process. 6 pages Source : Persée ; Ministère de la jeunesse, de l’éducation nationale et de la recherche, Direction de l’enseignement supérieur, Sous-direction des bibliothèques et de la documentation.
