But if your website has just gone live and isn't even in top 100 yet? Just imagine how many pages you'll have to look through blinding your eyes in front of the monitor before you bump into your site. Besides the results you will pull may be largely inaccurate. The point is that Google serves a personalized search, so no matter whether you are signed in your Gmail account or not, your search results will be affected by your previous search history. That's why you may get the results that are rather different from what most of other users see. SEO tools for rankings check offer more effective and accurate way of tracking your website positions. A good rank checker lets you slash SEO workload big time and quickly get accurate rankings data. There are lots of free and paid rank checkers out there. And here are the most poplar ones: Rank Checker by SEO book (free) is a Firefox extension that lets users easily monitor website rankings for targeted keywords in Google (US and international versions), Yahoo, and Microsoft Live Search. But sometimes the results this free rank checker provides may be rather inaccurate. The point is that the Rank Checker clusters 100 results per page to minimize scraping on Google. Such kind of clustering can cause a shift in ranking if compared to only seeing 10 results per SERP. How to Check Your Keyword Rankings
If you're serious about optimizing your website and grabbing that coveted top spot on Google it's important that you closely watch your keyword rankings. Knowing where your website ranks in the major search engines for your target keywords is critical for several reasons: 1. It lets you evaluate how far you're from the top and how much effort/recourses are needed to reach the front page. 2. It enables you to test different SEO techniques to see which ones are working and drop all the rest. 3. It helps you keep your finger on the search engine pulse enabling you to spot algorithm tweaks and updates before they affect your site's traffic. If your rankings drop for some search terms you'll be able to quickly take measures to restore your positions before it impacts your traffic and sales. 4. It helps you evaluate the effectiveness of your SEO and better understand the competition in your niche. 5. If you're doing SEO for clients, keyword ranking reports are absolutely a must. There are a number of ways to check where your website ranks for your keywords let's see what options we've got. Manual rank checks The obvious choice is to go to Google and other search engines you're watching, run searches on your target keywords and look for your site in the results. However this way is not only extremely slow but also largely inaccurate. As you might or might not know Google is now serving personalized results for all users, regardless of whether you're signed in your account or not. So the results you get will be affected by your previous search history, so they may be different from what most users see. Google Webmaster ToolsIf you have a Google Webmaster tools account you can get some interesting data on your sites positions for various keywords in Google there. If you go to 'Your site on the web' -> 'search queries'. There you get a list of all the search strings that your site appeared in the search results for. The tool shows you the number of impressions, clicks, clickthrough rate and the average position for each keyword. If you click on any keyword you can also see what exact pages appeared in the search results. This data not only shows you where your site ranks for
particular search terms but also lets you evaluate how your rankings are affected by personalized results, users location, etc. The downsides of this method is that if your site ranks below the top 10 results the tool only shows you the # of the results page, not the exact positions, and of course you can only track your rankings on Google, so if you target Yahoo!, Bing or any other search engines you'll need some other solution for tracking your rankings there. Rank CheckersRank checkers offer one of the most popular and perhaps the most effective way of tracking your site's rankings. There are a lot of rank checking tools out there, both free and paid. Most of them let you track multiple sites and keywords in a Some of the better ones are Rank Checker by SEO Book (free), Advanced Web Rankings (AWR) (paid with free trial) and Rank Tracker by Link-Assistant (free and paid). Search Engine Rank Checker - Where Do I Find One?
A search engine rank checker will tell you how your website ranks in one or more search
engines. It also helps to know what the search engines think of your site although you may need to guess at methods to improve your ranking. I typed "search engine rank checker" into Google and the following sites were listed. For each one which was free, I used the url of a well known keyword research tool and the keyword "keyword research software". This is what I found: Number one listing was sitereportcard.com. Here you can insert four urls and one or more keywords to find the ranking. The idea is that you insert your own page address and three other sites with which to compare it. Rankings are returned for Google, Yahoo and MSN (now Bing). It returned my url as not in the top 100 for Google and Bing but number 19 in Yahoo. Number two listing was SEOcentro.com. You put in one domain and a competitor if you wish plus your keyword. This returned my url as number 1 in Google, number 24 in Yahoo and not ranked in Bing. Googlerankings.com was the third of my search results. The problem with this is that unless you already have a Google SOAP API key, you can't use the tool. No, they won't issue any more APIs and no, they won't help you if you've lost the one you already had. Fourth was iwebtool.com. Again, you insert the url and keyword. There are drop down menus for Search on (search engine) and Limit search to (a number of results) but each menu only offered one choice - Google and 100 results. This too listed my url as number 1 on Google.
Fifth was marketleap.com. A "problem" was returned for this one. Next at six was web-inspect.com. This one couldn't find my chosen url at all in Google, Yahoo, MSN, Hot Bot or Teoma. Seventh was ineedhits.com. To use this tool I needed to create an account and having done so, I was asked to put a button on my website. Results were: Google - higher than 100, Yahoo -number 25 and Bing - number 50. Next, at number eight came linkassistant.com. Rank Tracker is part of SEO Power Suite which you can download free or paid. I already had this thanks to my hosting account so I plugged in my url and it returned number 1 on Google and number 25 on both Yahoo and Bing. I really like this tool; it creates a project for you and you can do all sorts of things with it - too many to mention here as it's worthy of an article on its own. Number nine returned the FAQ page at digitalpoint.com - tools. I finally discovered that I had to register here too so I didn't bother. Finally at ten, Rank Checker from SEObook.com. This is a free download for which you have to register. As far as I can tell, it is only available for Firefox. It's very easy to use; just click on the logo on your status bar in Firefox, insert the url and as many keywords as you like and there you are. Results can be downloaded in CSV format. My url was #1 on Google, #19 on Yahoo and #25 on Bing. So my picks for a search engine rank checker based on these results would either be Rank Tracker (no. 8) and Rank Checker (no. 10) which returned more or less the same results.
