In this book, we’re going to talk about the ancient kingdoms of Kush and Aksum. So, let’s get right to it!
WHAT WAS KUSH?
Kush, which had previously been called Nubia, was a kingdom in Africa in ancient times. It was connected to both the history and culture of Ancient Egypt.

WHERE WAS KUSH LOCATED?
Kush was located in what is now Sudan, a country in the northeastern section of Africa. The major cities of the kingdom were located on the riverbanks of the Nile River and its branches, the White Nile and Blue Nile Rivers.
THE BEGINNINGS OF KUSH
Some of the first people to live in the northern part of Africa were the Nubians. About 3000 BC, they lived in small villages due south of Egypt. It was the perfect location. The soil was fertile and the freshwater from the Nile provided water to drink, fish to eat, and mud to build homes.
