About the Author
The author is an Early Childhood and Primary Teacher with many years’ experience in education and a passion for establishing literacy-rich and inclusive learning environments. She appreciates th individuality of children and seeks to support children in embracing differences. Tanya deeply values the learning opportunities for children when exposed to diversity and believes this fosters not only an acceptance for others, but develops value and appreciation for those who may exhibit characteristics, needs and abilities that differ from our own. She lives in a small suburb at the bottom of the Blue Mountains with her two children, with whom she has walked a very non-traditional path at times. They share their home with many furry friends, including a much-loved golden retriever, budgies, cats, a rabbit, fish and all the strays that visit from time to time. We share a love and appreciation for nature and this explains why the book is set in an Australian rainforest and contains characters and species of wildlife and nature specific to a tropical rainforest.
