I n this book, we’re going to talk about the Dust Bowl. So, let’s get right to it!
W hen we think of problems in the environment, we often think of hurricanes, tornadoes, or floods. However, too much water or wind isn’t the only type of environmental problem that’s severe. During the 1930s, there was a serious drought in the region of the Great Plains and it created what was later called a “Dust Bowl.” The term “Dust Bowl” was used to describe both the region where it was happening as well as what was happening.

T he Dust Bowl, also called the Dirty Thirties, was a period of intense storms of dust that damaged both the American as well as the Canadian prairies. In the United States, the southwestern section of Kansas, the southeast portion of Colorado and the panhandles of both Texas as well as Oklahoma were affected by this environmental disaster.
