Art and Soul
Gwen picked up her wine glass and sipped on the dark red liquid. As she made her way from the lush, candlelit dining room to the beautifully modern living room, she couldn’t help but think how terribly ironic all of this was.
Clark had actually made a name for himself in the art world. He’d followed his dreams and found success. She ran her hand along the back of his expensive black leather couch then stopped to observe the mysterious purples and blacks of a large glass bowl, which sat atop a marble end table. The piece drew her in almost metaphysically, and she lost herself for a moment in its beauty. Looking away, she found some of Clark’s original paintings on the walls, also whirlwinds of color, some hot reds and yellows, others cool grays and blues.
He’d tried to convince her back in college that his art would pay off someday. The wild, soul-inspired portals were definitely modern and hard to believe in back then. She didn’t think he would ever make a living from them. Oh, how she had been wrong.
With Clark busy washing the dinner dishes in the kitchen, Gwen actually had time to really ponder what an odd coincidence had brought them back together this evening. Her soon-to-be ex-husband had called her while she was at work to harshly remind her that she wasn’t getting a dime of his hard-earned money. She, of course, told him she didn’t want any of it and told him where he could shove it. Talking to him these days did nothing to solve anything. All it seemed to do was raise her blood pressure. So after work, she’d gone down to the closest grocery store, one where she typically didn’t shop, to buy herself a bottle of wine to calm her nerves.
