Sample Book Insights:
#1 I had a good feeling about meeting Ralph, and not just because of the cake element. Ralph had been chatty and interesting in his emails. But as we walked through the gallery, a sense of awkwardness settled over us.
#2 I was beginning to think that Ralph was married, not divorced. I was trying to be open-minded about him, but right now with the elderly couple lurking nearby, I didn’t want to bring up his unmentionable thing.
#3 The art exhibit was about the permanence of the enclosed objects, compared to the impermanence of the lobster pots. It was also about the concept of cleanliness in a world full of germs and bacteria.
#4 I eventually agreed to go with the profile my children had so sweetly created, and see what happened. I met a man named Beppie, who charmingly remarked, If you're not looking for anything serious, we might be able to have a bit of fun. No thank you.

Insights from Chapter 1

#1

I had a good feeling about meeting Ralph, and not just because of the cake element. Ralph had been chatty and interesting in his emails. But as we walked through the gallery, a sense of awkwardness settled over us.

#2

I was beginning to think that Ralph was married, not divorced. I was trying to be open-minded about him, but right now with the elderly couple lurking nearby, I didn’t want to bring up his unmentionable thing.

#3

The art exhibit was about the permanence of the enclosed objects, compared to the impermanence of the lobster pots. It was also about the concept of cleanliness in a world full of germs and bacteria.

#4

I eventually agreed to go with the profile my children had so sweetly created, and see what happened. I met a man named Beppie, who charmingly remarked, If you're not looking for anything serious, we might be able to have a bit of fun. No thank you.

#5

I had a difficult time meeting people online, and my first date ended up being with Ralph, who had three teeth in the whole of his head. I was hoping for something at least approaching a full set.

#6

I met Ralph at the waterside, and we ate carrot cake together. I had to ask him about the painting with the big yellow sun, and he told me that his wife and he were still married, though they were separated.
Insights from Chapter 2

#1

I was on a date with Ralph, and I was not good. I had spent too much time on my make-up, and I was not a shined-up version of myself. I was just a tired-looking middle-aged woman who was too fond of her cake.

#2

Stu started a delivery service called Parsley Force, which delivered emergency forgotten ingredient deliveries. He moved in with me last September, when his live-in relationship with Roz fell apart.

#3

I met my housemate, Ralph, and we got along great. He was not averse to running the hoover about, and on weekends, like an obedient Labrador, he went out for the newspapers. He was handsome in a mussed-up sort of way.
