Description

These war poems are dedicated to those who served their country to preserve our liberty in the air, on the ground, and on the sea. They are a result of my poetic pondering and emotions open reading great non-fiction books about the art and tragedy of war.

Purpose
These war poems are dedicated to those who served their country to preserve our liberty in the air, on the ground, and on the sea. They are a result of my poetic pondering and emotions upon reading great non-fiction books about the art and tragedy of war.
I received a Deferment in 1966 after graduating from Youngstown University and went to work as an Electrical Engineer at Ohio Edison. The Vietnam draft was in progress at that time. I am forever grateful and indebted to those who went to serve their country.
I would also like to acknowledge my good friend History Professor Emeritus Harry Bowen for sharpening my understanding of history.
I am now retired after working 30 years at Packard Electric Division of General Motor and an additional Consulting Career from 1999 to 2016. I receive great enjoyment in writing a little Poetry now and then. I know that most engineers are not supposed to be poets, but I am hoping to be an exception.
The first man on the moon, Buzz Adrian-Engineer, lamented, that he was not a poet, able to find the poetic words for such an emotional event in his life.
W W II THE AIR WAR

THE RIDE OF HIS LIFE
CAPTION. ED TRACY
RCAF 1941 / USAAF 1942

The month was May of 1942.
All hell was breaking loose.
A young flier from Cortland, Ohio was effected, too.
A year before he had joined the Canadian Air Force to be of use.
Now the world wide fight was becoming personal.
This flyers own country was now at war.
Ernie Hall, who gave Ed early flight lessons, knew he would give it his all.
Through 102 Air Battles, his air strikes would be surgical.
He would fly the best US fighters Apache, War Hawk, and Thunderbolt.
Over the Italian sky, careening, turning, climbing and stalling.
Goering’s Army and ME 109’s were given quite a jolt!
The sight and smell of gun powder in his cockpit must have been appalling!
Jan 12, 1944 522 nd War D iary
“One mission developed through out the day.
It was a bombing mission of gun positions near the front l ines
Lt Tracey’s plane developed engine trouble and he made a belly landing near the Volturno r iver.
He was uninjured and a two plane search mission started, but he was reported safe before they retu rned ”.
I am sure you can imagine the danger these flyers faced to defend the worlds freedom.
They are worthy of our gratitude and any recognition that they are given.
H.R. 1553 “ CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL for their courage and wisdom.
These fearless Aviators risked their young lives and were God and Country driven.
